Aaron Pynenberg

ARMA Deputy Director Aaron Pynenberg is a decorated 15-year police sergeant specializing in Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) and gang street crime. He is a combat veteran who served as a Army medic from 1992-1998, is a certified instructor in Defensive and Arrest Tactics as well as the SPEAR System, a cutting edge personal defense and readiness system.  As senior student and official apprentice to ARMA Director John Clements, Aaron has given historical fencing courses across the USA and in three countries. 

Aaron is featured as a combatives expert in the 2011 program Medieval Fight Book for National Channel. He has presented on Medieval and Renaissance close combat at the famed Kienbusch arms museum, the Atlanta Blade Show, as well as for Albion Swords.  Aaron is featured in 2011 National Geographic program, Medieval Fight Book, the special features on Swordsmen in Universal's 2011 Blu-Ray re-lease of Conan the Barbarian, the speacial features on knightly training in Sony Pictures 2008 re-release of the movie "First Knight," as well as in Galatia Films 2009 documentary, Reclaiming the Blade.

He is currently working on historical combat and swordsmanship in additional films and media. He earned his Free-Scholar rating certification in 2007 and teaches at the Appleton, Wisconsin study group of ARMA. His primary focus is armored longsword and Ringen. In August 2010 he was awarded ARMA's first-ever Provost ranking as assistant instructor.

Aaron also runs the Combat College combatives certification program for law-enforcement and self-defense skills in Appleton, Wisconsin.
