ARMA-InTheatre
The beginning of our program consists of foundational workshop classes of
weapon forms with accompanying attendance certifications, allowing students to later study
at advanced levels. The
basic stage combat course is intended to give the students proficiency in longsword,
rapier/dagger, and transition rapier/smallsword. A basic stage
combat course is made up of 3 semesters. Classes are planned to be scheduled several times
a year.
General Outline
Introduction
Eye Contact;
Balance;
Focus;
Controlling aggression.
Basic Level Class
1) Longsword (hand-and-a-half/two-handed sword)
Basic routine teaches:
Stances and Footwork (pass and advance);
Carriage
Attacks (cuts, thrusts, half-swording, pommelling and 'mortschlag');
Defenses (avoidances, parries and blocks).
Candidates study
techniques for dramatic and effective blocking.
Performance for examination.
Successful candidate receives certificate.
2) Sword and Dagger
Basic routine teaches:
Stances and footwork (pass and advance);
Carriage;
Attacks (cuts and thrusts);
Defenses (avoidances, parries and blocks).
Rehearsal, performance and certificate as above.
3) Transition Rapier/Smallsword
Basic routine teaches:
Stances and footwork;
Carriage;
Attacks (thrusts with absence of blade and with pris de fer, slashes, pommelling);
Defenses (avoidances, parries, use of the left hand).
Rehearsal, performance, examination and certificate as above.
It
is to be hoped that before too long, the success of ARMA InTheatre will allow diligent
students the opportunity of obtaining full certificates of proficiency in the various
weapons. |
