Insights from Historical Artwork

Two miniatures from the Compilation of St. Alban, 1400’s. Ms Add 10294, BL.  Death of Arthur at the battle of Camlann, top, and Sir Bedivere throwing the sword into the lake.  While again illustrating fictional events as historical as with the Maciejowski Bible stories, note the deep wounds to the mailed heads and the wounds to the shins, and lower and upper arms.  In the bottom panel Arthur and Bedivere are shown heavily wounded in similar manner.
