Insights from Historical Artwork

Stylized rendition of knightly fighting. Note the wearing of a shield on the back by guige straps, the double-hand grip on the sword, the extended lunge-like step and the penetration of the great helm, and the head turned away. Second pair of figures: note the arm seize and sword thrust (either entering and exiting again or else only puncturing the surcoat?). Note also the foot position which may be a tripping action. - C. 1250. Knaurs Weltgeschichte, p. 353.
