Re: Hope not to bore

"Against Aaron, I learned that every offensive move I made, I'd better defend, too. (the two knots on my head and broken pinky attest to that)." Just FYI, because of a finger break two years ago to a minor (age 15) student, I mandated hockey/fieldhockey/lacrosse gloves. I cannot afford the...

Re: Special Presentation Series in Mexico

I am also looking forward to hearing from the report that you guys are going to put together. If I remember correctly, I think you all went to Mexico City. If it is possible, and if enought interest is generated in Mexcio, I'd be interested in trying to go with you all for any second trips. It's not...

Re: Frustrated In Missoula, Montana

Hi Corey,
I live in a town of 18,000 people. Even with that small number, I've beebn fortunate to have at least even a few people to train with.

Keep at it. The notes you've gotten so far from others bear this up as well.

Re: Historical swordplay in Lord of the Rings???

"I would have expected better with John Howe being involved. Steve" My oldest kid checked out a book about the making of the movie. It was either Howe or Alan Lee who had a VERY good quote about swordwork - so I think Anderson had more to do with the swordwork than Howe did in the movie. A...

Happy Thankssgiving!

I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving! P.S. I hope to start building up a new batch of padded longswords this weekend, if I can some indoor house painting done, too. I'll be experimenting with some new padded sword designs using Delrin, nylon, and hickory as the "bread" in the PS sandwich.

Re: New Editorial - What exactly is it?

Hi John, When I was doing Asian MA, I was learning what was taught to me by the instructor, with little reading on my own outside of the immediate organization's publications. Outside scholarship was not encouraged (or discouraged - it just wasn't an issue). The extra reading and study is only one a...

Re: Thank you

Hi Bob,

I just ordered a waster, but it's not delivered yet. I have a warped PHA. Should I send it in? I did not order from the website.

Thanks.

Re: Unrimmed shields DO seem to make alot of sense...

My next thought would be how to make a shield that would grab a padded sword? Otherwise, you'd have to go to full plate armor for sparring so one can use a steel sword against the wooden shield. Realistically, from what you are saying, if one is using a padded sword / shield combo in sparring, then ...

Re: Slum Fu stompers struggling to become a fechtschul

Thanks for the GREAT story. Your determination is commendable to have a local group survive and flourish. I wish you the best with your weapons sales, as well. I hope you can send one to John to look at them. Have you built the ARMA design padded sword as well? By the way, what percentage of your wo...

Yes. Don't delete (like I did) the seeming piece of junk mail that allows you to access the E-list.

Software question & request

I don't know if this is possible or not, but after looking at the "Charron test cutting thread", it would make it easier to read if each post were numbered and if each reply could have a reference to the number of the post that was being commented on. As I said, I don't know if this is pos...

Re: "Soft and Slow"..is it martially valid?

A little background. Before ARMA (B.A. ?) I did about 4 or 5 years in TKD, and my club did forms, one-step and 3 step drills, "Blossfechten" sparring (hey, if we borrow Eastern terms to describe WMA, I say let's use WMA terms to describe EMA items!!!) and padded sparring. The forms were AL...
