Re: The Bodkin Arrow vs. Plate

I don't think arrows could penetrate the plate armors. Probably really good pikes with some extra weight added at the end could. The Roman and the Thai would put probably a tennis size iron ball near the base where the spear head was attached to the wooden staff. This would give it the extra weight ...

Re: Morning Stars & Maces Against Plate Armor

Maybe if they had been made of thinner metal plates encased in leathers...maybe the blow wouldn't be so devestating! Then maybe they could have taken them off from an injured knight quite easily! ANd, maybe The outer-softer leather would act as shock absorber against blunt force and harder leather u...

Re: Defeated by rapier...

I was watching a Thai historical drama which was about French making a treaty with Siam (now Thailand) to give away an island, and I saw Thai villagers trained with Krabi-krabong dropping French soldiers like dolls in sword fights. And those weren't even the royal guards. No, offense...but nobody ha...

Re: Defeated by rapier...

But otherwise, as we always say, if you are not familiar with foyning fence a good rapier fighter will eat you up. I don't know...European fencing styles seem kindda cumbersome and stiff...not to mention sluggish...compared to Thai, Chinese, Japanese, and a lot of oriental fencing style, IMO. I've ...

Re: New Stirling Arms Wasters -Quality

I heard in Thailand they are made of special wood that only grows in the tropic, which is supposed be very tough! They're not hard, so they don't break. They kindda give a little...asorbing the impact. I don't think you can very easily cut through them with swords, as a result. I don't remember the ...

Re: Early Spanish Colonization

All very true, and interesting. But lets not forget, the effects of smallpox, the thousands of Indian allies who took their side, the political instability of the Aztec empire, the handful of Cortez' cannons, crossbows and muskets, the score or so of heavy cavalry, even the boats he later built, no...

Re: A Question on Roman man to man fighting.

just saw the six first episodes of the HBO series Rome, and wondered if, or how much, we know about the technics they used in man to man fighting during the first centurys of the first millenia here in Europe? Is there anything out there one could look into? Why one might ask. Well I pesonaly think...

Re: Early Spanish Colonization

What you are saying is true? I guess the boys on both sides did duties as warriors.! But many people today still are convinced that the white man had moral superiority over the natives they conquered! You can see from movies and TV portraying the Indians and other natives as brutal savages! In many ...

Early Spanish Colonization

I hope I don't get any angry responses about what I'm about to say! So, please! Let's try to discuss this politely as possible! I will appreciate that a lot! Now, I want to talk about the earlier Spaniards and Portuguese conquests around the globe. I hear some people are convinced of the Conquisterd...

Well, actually...the knee can be very devastating if use correctly! Pulling the face down and smash your knee into his face when throws a punch can knock someone out cold! Besides, MMA you see in the ring is a sport version...so there are regulation where all the dangerous moves using knees, elbows,...

I don't think all these body armor would practical! In the modern age, there are regulation of what you can wear to work! And how many times are you going to actually be in a real, life and death situation? Remember! This is not Ancient Rome or the Medieval Europe where the living condition was horr...

Western Boxing

I was just wondering if they taught some type of early western boxing during the Rennasance period...or the Medieval? I think boxing is a pretty good system of close range fist fighting, and it would certainly come in handy angainst a wrestler in a real fight! It's simple and affective...so the more...

Re: A Question on Roman man to man fighting.

Well, the Roman Gladiators were basically slaves for the soul purpose of entertainment. ( Sounds kindda barbaric! ) On the other hand, the women went crazy over them! <img src="/forum/images/icons/grin.gif" alt="" /> They're like today's athletes. Even the wealthy wanted to have ...
