Re: Proper gym training

"For the ende of this arte is not to lifte up or beare great burdens, but to move swiftelie. And there is no doubt but he vanquisheth which is most nimble, and this nimblenesse is not obtained by handling of great heftes or waightes, but by often moving." Been a long time since I've poste...

I dont intend to get sucked into this debate, however this caught my attention. You state in your editorial, or seem to imply, that the Western civilizations founded the concept of human rights. But, a Persian ruler, Cyrus the Great, appears to have published a manifesto of human rights in 539 BC wh...

I would add: The Golden Sayings of Epictetus and The Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, if I may. They are redundant after your list, but serve to drive the point home. "There is no new philosophy, only re walking Aristotle's ground." Agreed, however I havnen't read either. I'm reading Veget...

So much heated debate! Hmmm... read The Histories by Herodotus; the Anabasis by Xenophon, The Conquest of Gaul by Julius Caesar, The Military Revolution by Geoffrey Parker, Carnage and Culture by Voctor Davis Hanson, The Republic by Plato, and Politics by Aristotle in order to get some idea of the i...

Well said. It's nice thats there's a general Western Civilization historical editorial now. Also, I like the bluntness and straightforwardness. Its unfortunate that the point needs to be made so blatant and clear, but it is necessary. It's a welcome addition to the page. I think there should be more...

Other Historical European Martial Arts

We all talk about, write about, practice etc. historical European martial arts. However, I have never seen anything on this website dedicated to fighting skills pre Dark Ages. Most everything is on medieval and renaissance weapons and traditions. Perhaps it is because so much information exists from...

I too would love to hear of some makers of traditional halberds and bows. Unfortunatley they are probably hard to find, and thats probably why nobody's responded yet.

I have to agree with Mr. Tallebois. I really don't know how we could accuratley verify with any absolute certainty the physical characteristics of people who lived at least 600 years ago. We can really take into account their likey diet, possible physical routine, and the presence of disease in thei...

Wow; I skip a day and all this blows up. I cant even make any points now because the moment has been lost. Anyway, you guys might want to start a new thread about this last page; it has obviously moved in large part off of the original post. These types of discussions if you notice crop up here and ...

It's not about what you're fighting with, it's about how you fight with it. I think that's something we can all agree with in all cases Anyway, perhaps I am taking this discussion the wrong way. Are we trying to see using two full swords at once as possibly offering advantages over traditional sing...
