Re: Why do recruits go away? Is this really a Problem?

Hi Shane, you nicely summed it up deviding in three categories. I know these, too... ;-) From my own experience I would like to add two things: 1) People leave because their martial approach/need is different from the approach of group A, B or C - thus their needs are not satisfied. 2) The teaching ...

Re: New Article on the Mastercuts

Hi everybody, good work the "mastercuts"-article! Nevertheless something to mention: - The Krumphau is not described as a short edge cut. Danzig is very explicitely on that point, he advises to use the long edge. Ringeck does not specify which edge to use. Just Joachim Meyer (in late 1570 ...

Re: Vom Tag;"on" the shoulder or "over"

Hi John, could you please be so kind to provide the exact pages of historical manuscripts you are quoting? Luckily I know the manuscripts quite well, so I do not have to search to long a time, but others need the Folio number to check your arguments. My elbows look just like ones in countless histor...

Re: Vom Tag;"on" the shoulder or "over"

Stacy, just a short note now, I am in a little hurry: Just for the record, I thought Stacy is a girls name. Sorry for that. A dissection perhaps following on monday <img src="/forum/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" /> Best, Claus _______________________________ Ochs - historische Ka...

Re: Vom Tag;"on" the shoulder or "over"

Hi Joachim, there is also the reasoning of "less talk, more action." (Me sometimes choosing that path could be because I'm Swedish, and we're not so talkative all the time) Hah! I like that, cause I am Bavarian and Bavarians are not so talkative all the time... <img src="/forum/images...

Re: Vom Tag;"on" the shoulder or "over"

Hi Joachim! Thank you very much for your very long, partially off-topic posting (see headline of the thread). Profound arguments and critique on the other hand will be always appreciated. Am really afraid, that David Lindholms published translation of the Ringeck quote “Item, du solst mercken alles ...

Re: Vom Tag;"on" the shoulder or "over"

Hi Stewart, I agree with Stacy in that being one step out of range can be considered as a part of Zufechten Sure. As for the actual topic at hand... I still have some experiments that I want to do, but I don't really like the on the shoulder position once I am in a closer Zufechten range I don´t wan...

Re: Vom Tag;"on" the shoulder or "over"

Hi John (and Gary), John wrote: We were playing with these Miesterhau from the on shoulder position some this weekend using a sharp Del Tin warsword against a fresh killed deer. There was little question it resulted in weaker cuts than when held higher aloft over the shoulder John, this result was n...

Re: Vom Tag;"on" the shoulder or "over"

Stacy, I agree to disagree <img src="/forum/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" /> We generally define zuefechten as the distance at which one passing step will bring you into cutting range. With all due respect, this definition is plain wrong in regard to Liechtenauer´s fighting syste...

Re: Vom Tag;"on" the shoulder or "over"

Jake, right, I said, that vom Tag is only for Zufechten and I agree with you that the rest-on-the-shoulder-Tag could only be used in such a situation. To argue on the same basis: Stacy explained above, that she is using a different definition of the technical term Zufechten, than the historical manu...

Re: Vom Tag;"on" the shoulder or "over"

Hi everybody! please allow me to step in your discussion. First of all I would like to direct you to SFI, where the same question has been discussed. BTW, Jake´s very first posting was excellent and IMO nothing more to say about this topic. Nevertheless some basic things: 1. The manuals (Danzig) adv...

Re: speed and force

Hello Bob, it is a pleasure to read your most excellent postings and crystal-clear argumentation. Bart already mentioned it earlier, that also in Liechtenauers tradition footwork is essential - nevertheless there are some movements when the blades are in the bind that do not necessarily require a fu...

Re: Goliath

Hi Stacy! I was more focused on the "how" than the "why". When I say not to cross the hands on the left side, I'm following JC's recommendation along with my own discomfort in crossing the hands that way, but if the manuals say that it is meant to create an opportunity for a krum...

Re: Goliath

Hi Steve! The books title will be "Master Liechtenauers Art of Fencing" or something like that and is going to be a basic how-to-guide to Liechtenauers system on the basis of three of the most important German works. that is Danzig for techniques (Meisterhaue...), Doebringer and Meyer for ...
