In kingdom of heaven the sword fights are horrible, but I do give them points for fentioning the "posta de falcone" despite the fact that fiore dei liberei was born about 200 years after the movie takes place. posta de falcone is from Vadi, not Fiore. But, it is nice of them to act...

My understanding is that the Square Shield is more a square buckler, like the wavy ones depicted in Marozzo.

Heh I'll have to assume they were reffering to the last sword duel. I've never seen the movie. I looked for it for a couple of years after reading that article in Black Belt but never found a copy and I haven't tried to locate it since the advent of netflix and other internet resources. I just felt...

Despite the fact that it's a pistol duel?

Actually my impression is that Silver did in fact think of the rapier as an inferior weapon. Sections 11-15, and 19-21 he specifically criticizes the rapier as a weapon, and not just the Italian style, which he also criticizes at length. The most direct statment being First I will begin with the wo...

On a side note... For all those people who think that true rapiers were effective cutters need to look no further than our man Silver here. Silver bashes the rapier because it is not good for the total fight; which includes thrusts AND cuts. If circa 1600 rapiers were effective cutters then Silver ...

Sorry about the mix up. It does look an awful lot like the vom tag in Ringeck, so i figured that was what they were using. It still doesn't really change the question, is that position is supposed to rest on the shoulder? I don't understand why anyone, regardless of tradition, would want to do that...

The reason i asked was because while i was going over the videos, i clicked on this gem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fGlYAFvtbI In which the fellow with the light sleeves and painted mask goes into the lower vom tag and the fellow in the black shows why he should think about possibly changing t...

This might be of interest. http://www.salvatorfabris.com/RapierParryingLongsword.shtml I wouldn't call that a parry at all. It's just a stop--it doesn't really deflect the longsword blade much or bring it really out of line. My understanding of a parry is that it just stops the blade, doesn't defle...

If the only thing you care about is martial arts, then why study with ARMA? There must be some affinity you have for the Western aspect of the group. John, as our fearless leader, is merely reminding us to take pride in that western aspect. ARMA is a lone voice in the world and so it is incumbent u...

That is very true. You can't find the quote "the west sucks" anywhere else in this post except for what I wrote. Really, the closest you can come is to some vague observations that it doesn't really, in fact, even exist. What is the West, i think the fact that it's a vague description doe...

What Nigel is saying (at least as i interpret it) is that we can never fully understand past cultures, because we cannot go there, we cannot get into their mindset, it's vastly different. To people during the 17th C Religion was pretty much the most important thing to them. How many people studying ...
