Those look pretty good. Nice job. The ones I handled had wooden cross-guard fastened to nylon body (one piece blade+hilt) and a bit metal in the pommel as counterweight. Looks like you went nylon for the cross-guard as well... all one piece?

P.S. I tried to figure out a way to send the group photo, but cannot do it, so I added it to our yahoo group (arma_clb) in the photo section. Perhaps a computer wiz can take it from there to here, otherwise just join the group and take it from there. Hrm. Cannot view pictures in arma_clb unless I'm...

:) You know you want to switch to plastic anyway. Those plastic longsword wasters that Stu Feil brought to Columbus were very nice. As soon as I can get contact info for the plastic waster-meister (Eric?) I'll be forking over whatever deposit/payment he requires to get on the waiting list. There's t...

I also thank the Columbus group for pulling this together. Special thanks to Stewart Feil for stepping up and conducting this 1.0, to Jaron for organizing and letting me camp on his floor. I'd also like to thank everyone who did a bit of freeplay with me and for rolling on the mats (and to Eric for ...

Sharp or Blunt? If your just learning are you sure you want steel or would a wooden waster or aluminum training sword be ok? They are generally WAY cheaper.

On the topic of making your own wasters... I have no problem with buying a waster to practice with (either solo or with a partner) but I don't like the idea of spending $70 for a waster to beat on a pell with. This seems like the perfect opportunity for a DIY waster since destroying < $10 in materia...

David Kite and I had similar questions while working a couple of plates from the codex W. One of the way early plates ends with "allow you to throw your opponent forcefully to the ground" and I couldn't come up with a single way to do that from the ending position. I don't have the transla...

Interesting discussion. I attended Guy Windsor's longsword class at ISMAC a few weeks back and he twice pointed out that the sword doesn't need to be moving very forcefully to do its job. This thread seems to contradict that. Mr. Windsor didn't have a sharp with him to demonstrate the point visusall...

Re: Training equipment question

Doh. The guy at triplette said the size 4 would be appropriate for my head circumference so I went ahead and ordered a 1999 on Monday. Ah well... I'd still like to try out your mask if you don't mind bringing it on Saturday?
