I've been using one of the Tinker/Hanwei blunts for a few weeks now. Handles well, very narrow grip, feels a little lighter than the Albion Lichtenauer, narrower tip as well. Comes with VERY squared edges, but it's not hard to knock the corners off and get a decent round with a little bit of filing....

If I read you correctly, your issue with Hand is that he's fat, and he does reenacting. I very much have to agree with Ciaran here, in that judging by physical fitness the knowledge and scholarship of a text on our pet subject is shortsighted. I haven't had the chance to work with I.33's system yet,...

To master a single weapon in either hand first before moving on to two weapons simultaneously is how stick fighting is taught, you may just be mistaking something your stick instructor (or manual) told you for something your cat and thrust instructor (or manual) said. What little I do know about Es...

At the Battle of Clontarf in 1014, Brian Boru's son Murchad is said to have gone to battle carrying and using two swords. Stories have him leading the battle from the front, carving up the Norse pretty well and felling Sigurd of Orkney by cutting his helmet strap with his right blade and striking th...

I've got one of the Swordcrafts Lichtenauers, and it feels right and handles well. Only areas I could say it doesn't quite duplicate the feel of real steel blades is that it feels stiffer and if it's hit, it does ring for quite a while, which could distract if you hear it... I do want a second one f...

Home for me is the Seattle/Tacoma area, although I get back there far too seldom. I'm currently stationed in Panama City, Florida, and have "join ARMA" on my never ending list of things to do, even though the closest training groups are a good distance away from me. Perhaps next time I'm b...

Hard work, elbow grease, some variety of metal polish. I use maas metal polish and lots of work. Follow up with something to protect. For that I use Renaissance wax, it works wonderfully. And reregister on the forums with a proper name, consisiting of your actual first and last name, in accordance w...

Re: Bits of Wisdom: Quotes from the Manuals

Or, to put it paraphrase what Swetnam said, it's better to know more than you need than to need more than you know.

Re: Zwerchau test cutting video

I went out with the very next milk jug I emptied, and tried your rig for test cutting. I've got about a perfect tree for it in my yard (which also has foam padding and canvas wrapped around the trunk to act as a pell) so I hung the jug on a bungee from an outer branch. First cut I tried, as this was...

Question before I submit my application

I was reviewing the membership application information today, and saw that as an active duty military member, there's a $5 discount. Is there any documentation I need to send along with the application as evidence of active duty service?

Thanks,

Matt

Re: Thinking about submitting an application...

I'm in Panama City, Florida. Stationed at Tyndall AFB since about a year ago. I've done a little looking on the ARMA site to see if I could find anyone nearby, but so far haven't had any luck. I'm also on the lookout for a 1.0 near enough and at a time that I can get away for it.

Hi, I've been doing a lot of haphazard, find what you can work on WMA over the years, starting in the SCA as a fencer. That's where I first started researching period manuals, finding Di Grasse in a rather troublesome and confounding online version. I fenced for a few years before too many other thi...
