I had to do this with mine. It's a simple slice in the side of the material and then it can be pulled out. It isn't held down by anything.

No, but I play Eve Online so I'm familiar with them.

Re: Describe the German longsword style practiced by ARMA

Still, couldn't this be said of just about any practical martial arts style, armed or unarmed? It has to be possible to summarize what usually happens in practice when using this style, surely. If I generalize enough, I can call Boxing a "powerful punches at the head" -style, while callin...

I think you sell your early work too short John. I know that many of our interpretations have changed since the blue book, but the most fundamental concepts and basic principles were pretty well worked out in it's pages. I still read it cover to cover from time to time and I manage to pick at least...

I live in southern Pennsylvania so I figured Hickory wouldn't be too hard to find around here. However, I exhausted (as far as I could tell anyway) every wood supply store within a reasonable distance trying to find the stuff. The best I found was hickory hardwood flooring.. which obviously won't wo...

the Florysh (as I understand it) is more of a ‘built-your-own-kata’; a pattern of movements, which are repeated each practice. I gathered it was kind of the opposite; not so much a pattern of movements you use each practice (although that would also seem to fit the definition) but a random stringin...

One of the little things I remember picking up along the way was using damp paper towels and a sautering iron to reduce dents in wood. I'm not sure how well it'd work on the oiled wasters, but after extended use that oil tends to wear anyway. Before sanding down wasters, it might be useful to attemp...

Re: Some Questions

Thirdly, Maille and Plate: How expensive were they and how hard to make in comparison. From what I understand, Maille is quite a tour to make, and that even a full suit of plate could be easier (but perhaps not cheaper). Could you guys shed some light on this? I havn't dove into plate yet, although...
