Whats a first good sword to get.

If a guy is on a budget, what should he look for in a decent, yet affordable sword to learn with. I looked at albion, and the arms and armor sites, but the prices are kinda out of my price range.

I have a intrest in collecting and learning Western martial arms. I am intrested in the Swiss Pike, kinda something my ancestors were good with. lol Yet, I was wondering if good Halberds, and Pikes were made and who makes them. I do shoot a bit of traditional archery, I kinda shun away from compound...
