It's a lot less exciting, but my understanding is that the most logical explanation for why the English drive on the left is because it's the same side the Romans probably used ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-_and_left-hand_traffic#History ) and Napoleon never swapped things around there like h...

I haven't tried one myself, but Terry Tindall's masks (http://www.thatguysproducts.com/masks.html) masks look pretty robust.

I (and probably many others) first came across that phrase on page 118 of J. Christoph Amberger's excellent book The Secret History of the Sword . The chapter the quote is located in is an English translation by Dr Ann Martin of a passage from Josef and Kufahl Schmied-Kowarzik's Fechtbuchlein publis...

Re: Meyer MS

Thanks for your replies gentlemen. Ken The manuscript in question has not yet been made available to the public. For more information about the manuscript please contact ARMA director John Clements. I figured that arma would not be allowed to distribute the images they have of the ms for copyright r...

Meyer MS

The bibliography on the arma web site (http://www.thearma.org/ManuscriptListPre1650.html) contains reference to the following: 1560 Joachim Meyer Untitled No MS Des. Handwritten text of 80+ color plates on great-sword, rapier, and dussack with diagrams. Does anyone here have any additional details a...

Not really my field, but there are records of using two rapiers at once. See Giacomo Di Grassi's Ragione Di Adoprar Sicuramente L'arme p86 or perhaps more easily google "case of rapiers". Hope this helps.

It just seems to me that us saying that you can't call yourself a master unless you have a lineage going back to the fifteenth century will encourage some to folk to fraudulently do just that. After all who doesn't want to be a master? We call modern reproduction weapons by their historical names be...

At the risk of being a little inflamatory, I feel people are geting a little too worked up about the use of the word master. I can see that this is an issue that is close to the hearts of many people here and I am probably going to be treading on a lot of toes with my thoughts but here goes: The tit...

Re: Richard Halliburton

I dont think that Halliburtan's findings have been confirmed in any way - but his take on the dueling and use of bucklers was interesting. There's plenty of info out there on the Khevsurs (Halliburton spelled it wrong) and as far as I know the myth that they are decended from a band of 'lost crusad...

I have often wondered about this myself. I saw a documenary a few years ago (can't remember what it was called) that talked about the swiss guard a bit and how thay trained. Apparently they learn to use a variety of firearms and recieve training from practitioners of various differnt martial arts. I...

Has anyone tried fencing gloves? In theory at least they would seem ideal being padded but not bulky enough to be cumbersome.
