Re: Hello from new registrant

Get yourself to a NTP 1.0 to establish a good base if you are able to travel. There are several coming up. FWIW, suggesting I drop bread and travel to a seminar rather than letting me see something critical is generally considered a very bad sign . If it's impossible to get any insight into solo le...

Re: Respectfully, why the vitriol to Clements on Amazon.com?

Edit: I don't know why that second quote won't work. [Me ^_^], nobody who posts on this site will dare to make the claim that judo doesn't work in combat. It was an illustration through analogy, which I raised because the so-called distinction raises so much vitriol in the things I do know. Also, FY...

Re: Hello from new registrant

John: I'm sorry. The advice I gave you was bad. The article I referenced is indeed on the the website, albeit it is in the members only section. Thanks, and honest mistakes are the best kind. There was no harm done and I thank you for the reply. Is it possible for an interested soul to read the goi...

Respectfully, why the vitriol to Clements on Amazon.com?

Hi! Bear in mind that I've ordered both of Clements's books so that I can learn; I'm not agitating or anything like that. I'm sure everybody has seen the reviews on Amazon.com of Clements's two books on medieval & Renaissance martial arts. Many of the reviews are negative in a way that seems dow...

John's book are all technique and application. So are Ringeck, Wallerstein, and most of the other books out there. Anglo's book is special because it's *not* all technique, but rather context. That's hilarious , because I debated long and hard about which to get first. I was looking at Clements's b...

I can't find it. Can you give the link?

Nathaniel Bacon, yep, I'm in Traverse City. I've got a lot of friends in the Detroit area, so an excuse to go downstate can't hurt.

A big help for us would be to know what kind of weapons you are looking at. Good question. To be honest, I reckoned that I'd be the beggar, and therefore couldn't be the chooser. I figured that I could adjust to meet the source, rather than insisting on a source to fit my fantasy. I wasn't thinking...

Fantasy author: book on historical tech, not history of...

Hi! I'm new. I've explored this site extensively, and I think the ARMA site, and the ARMA mission, is fantastic. I have a specific question. I'm taking up writing, and your typical fantasy setting is my genre so far. One thing I'd like to do is have some semblance of reality viz. historical combat. ...

Hello from new registrant

Hi! I just signed up for the boards. I found the ARMA page some time ago, and I peruse it frequently. I'd love to learn how to fight with a sword; however, there's no groups around here that I'm aware of, and I'm not convinced in the efficacy of lone practice. The reason I signed up today is for a b...
