Re: Looking for insight on JC

Cool of you to reply, even if only once. As for who says these things, I could track down random YouTube commenters, anonymous forums posts, that whole thing with Krzysztof Kruczyński from 2010. But why bother? It's nothing you could trace back to an accountable person, really. Just enough mentions ...

Looking for insight on JC

So, buzz around the Internet is that JC refuses to spar with other HEMA enthusiasts. What, if any, truth is there to this? And if true, why? I have read articles where he paints Asian stylists in a bad light for doing just this, and an interview where he in no uncertain terms presents himself the wo...

"If I hit your hand/fingers/leg before your blow lands it's not going to count because you would lose control of your weapon" If you'll all excuse my derailment for a moment, is this true according to historical sources? If someone is doing a zorn to your head, and you cut off their hand ...

I find it hard to disagree with the above. The ratio of ARMA love compared to the ratio of answers to the criticism presented serves only to put the level of research mentality on this forum in a bad light, all the while supporting the existence of a cult mentality. No one wants their research commu...

Feh! He has started a legacy, I'm sure. Shown that it can be done with plastic. It is only a matter of time before someone else takes up the mantle. WMA is on the rise, methinks, and products will become good business. Heck, perhaps Eric himself has the opportunity to continue one day. I cry not ove...

I seem to recall from somewhere that the medieval styles had an attack for every defence, and a defence for every attack, which if correct should make it possible to create a really exotic and drawn-out fight using only real techniques, yet with the characters on-screen being so inhumanly skilled as...

Sounds plausible. If these people were half as concerned with surviving as I have the impression of, they would not enter mortal combat with techniques and weapons they didn't know the properties of if they could help it.

Re: Describe the German longsword style practiced by ARMA

You're trying to compare something that includes many 'separate' skill sets and differences between individuals to martial arts that concentrate on just one or a couple things (boxing is pretty much just punches). I'm not sure anyone will be able to give you an answer that fits a 'it's this style' ...

Re: Describe the German longsword style practiced by ARMA

The masters generally all agreed that it's best to kill with as little wasted motion as possible, so making the right blow once is better than making a false blow first and then a true blow. It's all about efficiency, sizing up your opponent, assessing the best course of action, and then devastatin...

Re: Describe the German longsword style practiced by ARMA

That someone would describe our "style" as "feint and devastate" I find quite bizarre. Would you mind relating where you heard that from? To be fair, he didn't say "feint and devastate" word for word, but his description of the style amounts to that. White Wolf Online....

Describe the German longsword style practiced by ARMA

I recently heard ARMA's style with the longsword described as a "feint and devastate" -kind of style. From my admittedly limted understanding of it from manuals, videos and technique descriptions, that seems far off. I would describe it more as a "Counterstrike and follow-up as necess...

Are we sure this isn't an April's Fool joke? I know JC's post was made on the 31. but with the time zones that might still have been April 1st where he lives.

So what you are basically saying is that the next time I see a medieval movie where they hack away at each others plate armour, I should recognize the martial accuracy of the movie? Sorry, but its just that after having unlearned a lot of popular myths, I return to find that a lot of them weren't so...

Rolling and two-weapon fighting

There are two questions I've been having on my mind for a while, and thought this would be the place to ask: 1. What was the practical application of rolling techniques in actual battle? Apart from the obvious falling technique aspect I'm wondering if there was anything to support that, if having fa...

Greatsword users would bang their edges at mail armour for the purpose of breaking bones within? I'm guessing the armour would be more sturdy than the blade, making that a rather damaging affair in the long run.

Surely this wasn't a very oft used technique?
