Re: Fiberglass Rapier Simulators

They definatly work. From a comfort standpoint I'd rather get poked with one of the floppy flexi things but the fiberglass ones work better from every other standpoint. Have you thought about some other sort of covering? Last time we did anything I ended up with a tape cut from the aluminum tape. SPA

Re: Speed and Force

Following Rogers post I have to ask: Would training with the control you advocate for safety (which I am interpereting as a form of pulling your punch as it were) not artificially limit your training? The concept I'm working under here is that you will fight how you train. The concept that "I c...

Re: Where to obtain a buckler?

Isn't letting it turn slightly when used part of how they're supposed to be used?

Re: Please try to identify this sword

I was thinking it looked like some of the cheap mass produced french trench knives from WWI that i've seen in various sources on that war.

Re: From Stockholm

I can see english text as well.

One thing I would request if possible would be larger size images. To me at the moment they appear roughly 1.5 inches (3.75cm) tall by 2.25 inches (5.7cm) wide. Makes it rather hard to make out details.

Re: The arms/armor race in the 15th and 16th centu

Well, like I said, this was a couple of years ago that I saw the thing. I could very easily be wrong. I do remember the heavy penetration shot was from very close range. Closer than I'd like to be as an archer.

Re: The Wikipedia

I read somewhere that wikipedia is the internets largest source of misinformation primarily due to peoples being able to alter the information contained in it. Those that do know something that post about it tend to get the information quickly altered by those who don't really know who insist that t...

Re: The arms/armor race in the 15th and 16th centu

I remember seeing one episode of Nova (i believe) dealing particularly with trebuchets but it did have one side segment on longbows vs plate armor. At a range of 200 yards it was difficult for the single archer to hit the single armored dummy at all. When they did it had minor penetration. At a rang...

Re: New Article on the Mastercuts

I may be misreading your drawings due to their ambiguity as effectivly stick figures but what I'm seeing in them looks far more like a Schielhau rather than a Krumphau to me.

Usually where one of the combatants sticks a curved finger into his opponents mouth catching and potentially tearing the cheek. At least that's what I've always been told.

Re: New Article Online - Damaged Edges

If you are thinking of a zwerchhau (which would follow the line you describe) you can even counter that with another zwerchhau. But you have to throw it from the same side and under his zwerchhau. The blades meet flat on flat with his blade catching on your cross while your blade hits him. If you th...

Re: New Article Online - Damaged Edges

I've noticed that a lot of people when they are first learning the zornhau vs zornhau counter instinctivly pull their blades to their left shoulder, focusing on their opponents blade rather than on hitting their opponent. This tends to have a result of them turning their edge into the incoming sword...

Re: European Armed Fighting vs Unarmed fighting...

Considering how much the unarmed combat was a part of the armed, I personally believe that in the case of the second example you gave, the longswordsman wouldn't hesitate to drop his weapon (if needed) and proceed to wrestle. The transition from a fight with weapons to a fight without can be amazing...
