not sure about the 16th century but there is a picture in the macijoviski (spelling?) bible of a knight with something resembeling a 2 handed sword being used form horseback but this is dated to the mid 1200's

I always thought that the riccaso section of the blade for gripping was ment to be left blunt???

At the club I train at the only time we use wasters is for the training of new recruits. Once you have a combat status it is all blunted steel. Needless to say if you get 1 on the hand you will know it :x I use riggers gloves covered in sheepskin and double link heavy mail this works really well and...
