Re: Newcomer questions

Joachim's right - I get a lot out of Matt's stuff. It's quick, you don't need any equipment, and it hits the whole body. I also like that it stretches you out at the same time you're building strength and endurance. But Jake is right - you can find the stuff he does online or in other places, and he...

Re: Help me explain something, please

I saw that too, Casper. The historical event information was pretty good, the description of his weaponry was appalling. But man, what great fight scenes! <img src="/forum/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" /> Key to remember is that the wealth of misinformation that exists about ...

Re: Jake's new toy

I guess I'm just wondering what this has over a regular blunt - is it a safety factor? Obviously, as we saw with John's cutting demo videos from the International Event with the blunt against tatami mats, a blunt is quite dangerous when used right.

Re: Jake's new toy

David and Jake, It looks sort of rapier-like from a blade-only standpoint, not as flattened as a regular longsword blade. Does it feel correct when you use it for the cuts? I can see how it would be good for winden/binden, but does the roundness of it (at least, as I'm perceiving it from the photos)...

Well, in all reality, you may have lived because you got him in the head, while he just got your elbow. But you should always try to avoid double hits.

I believe that wine commonly takes longer to ferment than does beer, not to mention that grains were more commonly available to most peasants than were fruits (grapes).

Re: Questions - A - Plenty

Andrew,

Even if you do decide you can make wasters yourself, it helps to have a good model. So, if you don't have someone else's waster to check out and model yours after, it could help to buy one just to get started.

Guys, I am EXTRAORDINARILY upset that I wasn't able to be there. Congrats to David and Francisco, and thanks to John for coming out to train with the Columbus group. I can't wait to take advantage of your teachings via Jeff, Jaron, etc.

As I remember, make sure they have some wiggle room in there. Jaron, didn't we bust a pair of your glasses right down the middle because there wasn't enough wiggle room for them in the helmet you were wearing?

Interesting... I don't think I've ever tried using them with my waster. I suppose if that's an issue, though, you could wrap some leather around your waster handle or some such thing.

I use Galls® Forced Entry Gloves, and I know a lot of other guys do too. They offer great mobility and awesome protection.

Re: Discussion - historical training & practice

Just looking at this thread again, and noticed Jake's comments about sports. In one of my other hobbies as a soccer afficionado, I have read that the playing of sports and games, particularly football (which, at the time, was more of a combination of soccer and rugby but with fewer rules, and was pr...
