I like the book, but it is not a book about how to fight with a sword, though he does address some of the basics for fighting with a sword. It is mostly a book about swords, their cross sections, types of swords and how swords wound someone. He has a section on cutting with the sword and how to test...

Hi Randall, I don't disagree with the action you have described, just the descriptive term you are using for it. I guess we will just have to disagree on that. Since interpretation is open to variation, that is OK. Once again thanks for sharing. all the best my friend. :) Brian Hunt. Co-author of &q...

Hi Randall, I see where you are coming from now. I still wouldn't call your full motion the action of "falling under the sword." I see that as the establishment of the over bind on the right in order to control the opponent's sword when he opposes your 1st ward with half shield. Instead I ...

Hi Randal, I agree that falling under the sword is the correct method for defending yourself against half shield when you are in first ward. The I.33 gives us the instruction to "fall under the sword and also the shield" when we are in first and the opponent is countering with "half s...

Hi Randal, sounds like you are discussing Stewart Feil's and my interpretation of falling under the sword and the shield. I completly agree that it is a descending cut, not a rising one. I find a descending cut at the right forearm of your opponent will create several actions. Either you will cut th...

JV, that was one of the most touching things I have read in a very long time. I had the opportunity to meet your friend at Ashokan 2005. I was very impressed with his passion and his straight forwardness. I feel for the loss of your friend. My heart goes out to you and to the rest of his family and ...

Thanks to everyone who had such nice things to say about the helmets I make. I have worked very hard to increase the number of helmets I can produce a year and the number has increased to about 20 a year at this point and I intend to continue to increase that number as I create newer and better ways...

Brian Hunt makes a great helmet especially geared for historical fencing. Hey Jaron, Thanks for plug. I have worked some kinks out of my ability to form platic and that has sped up a lot. I just need to find a way to speed up the grills. :) I am currently slogging through my back orders and trying ...

I built my first suit of armour in the early 80's. I am currently making a new suit of 14th century armour that is mostly done. Just need time to build for myself instead of others. :) Have been training in and out of armour for years, though I never new the historic techniques until joining ARMA. B...

Iron wood is also really, really hard to work. It will dull your wood working tools with amazing ease.

Actually,

this fellow, Hugh Knight, is a knight in the SCA. He has some interesting and sometimes rather strange ideas on historical european martial arts. Oh well, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
