To Grant's credit, he did mention the fact that what he said was based on his experience, watching bouts. The videos that Dog Brothers have on their event go a long way to supporting what he said with a visual confirmation. Now maybe he's watching inexperienced Kali fighters, and you might even wan...

I have to say that I don't see much use in this at all, as far as Martial Arts go I consider Kali as one of the worst as it has a always go forawrd mentality in its fighting that results in both opponents getting hit multiple times. There is little to no voiding, parrying or blocking, in every sing...

I'm not arguing that it's not your or anybody else's prerogative or not to share their insights. It's obviously your choice. What I am arguing is that we are better served by openness than secrecy. The "historical masters did it" argument is easily disposed of. And so what if some people &...

Re: About the Windshield Wiper Krumphau...

John, why would you keep good technique secret? I just don't understand. Neither do I. I'd also be curious as to what a WW krumphau is (I'm somewhat of a beginner, so I don't know the krumphau ...unless I know it, but don't know the name) The ARMA and I give an extraordinary amount of material away...

Re: About the Windshield Wiper Krumphau...

I've been told that the WW interpretation doesn't really have a practical use in serious combat or something along those lines. What exactly is the difference in ARMA's interpretation of the Krumphau? I couldn't quite tell in the illustrations in the articles+essays section. Thanks! We are not offi...

Re: Assertion valid

Guys, this is starting to venture into the area of personal snipes. Let's get it back on track or close it down. Also, since this thread is dedicated to I.33, if someone wants to talk about athleticism, then I would respectfully suggest opening another thread. Well said Gene. Let's get this back on...

Re: Clarifying

The easiest way to sum it up is hand-body-foot, basically as Silver stated it. It does not conflict with the German or Italian schools of longsword in any way. Except that I would add that in the [Fiore's] system ... he more specifically refers to movements than actual "stepping". Most of...

Tires might work alright if you pad them heavily enough to muffle the rebound, but I would be pretty wary about aiming a two-edged sharp sword against a bouncy rubber object. If your edge alignment isn't quite right to dig into the target, it could go flying or skittering off in a direction you wer...

Thanks for the thoughtful and considerate feedback everyone. Test cutting and slow form work when alone is all I think I'll be starting with.

Re: Practice with sharps: advice?

Hi gentlemen. I expect my Albion Talhoffer within a week or so and wanted to pick all of your brains about the extent of the solo work one should do with valued sharps. Obviously, there are florishes and tipogressions, and test cutting. I did see a video of Mr. Clements going at the pell vigorously...

Having searched the forum a bit more it seems I have my answer: Mr. Johnsson evidently intended (if I can take the liberty of paraphrasing) the blade to be a light cutter against unarmored targets and a good thruster against armored ones. Suffice it to say that I think I've learned from Mr. Clements...
