wow

that is one of the most intelligent responses I have ever heard. Not only did you not insult me but you took the time to explain what you were trying to say eloquently, but you also showed a neutral argument that pointed out what I've been looking for simply and straight to the point. As to the ques...

a chip huh?

well you have one thing right I do believe that the katana is a superior blade. I also think that the japanese swordsmanship is inferior to WMA. so yes I am trying a hybrid(if I thought that the longsword was superior then this article would not exist). The first thing I have to address is that stup...

a few clarifications

hello again all. let me try to clarify further what I mean to convey the thought. This begs the question: for cutting what? A katana is definitely not as good at cutting wood as an axe first of all axes chop wood, splitting them with brute strength with the grain or against it. if you have chopped w...

response

I'm not sure what you mean by "stronger". Would you mind explaining? according to modern marvels on he history channel the katana blade has a profile perfected for cutting; with an edge that "never needs sharpening". According to the discovery channel's weapon master show the co...

interesting...

Mr. Clements you stated that the two styles have similarities, and while this is helpful I am a little confused. It seems to me that the katana is very similar to the longsword with similar lengths, weights, and balance; thus the only difference in the blades would be the emphasis on slashing over t...

Oookay?

How does that help this discussion? The point you made seems pretty obvious. So what is your point in saying that if it is not to help?

Budget? hmmm......

I realy have a limited budget, and would like a blade on the less expensive end. However given enough time I might be able to afford a decent one.

Thanks you guys

Thanks for your input guys. It realy helped me in understanding things better. I now feel free to practice in the purity that ARMA demands. Ok, now is there anything that I can do to encourage the stable black rust to form? Thanks for your time. EDIT: Also cold you guys offer some recomendations for...

not quite getting it...

Ok first I want to point out that I already know that the katana is different than a longsword. Second I want to remind you that I stated that I know that the katana does not translate into longsword well, and that I am wondering if the reverse is plausible. In regards to the swords listed; the tang...

A good answer

Thanks for your timely response. I'm sorry for the confusion; I do not know much about the differences in the longsword yet. I know that a katana's skills do not translate well because of the number of blades, however I want a sword that has a nice thick tang that I can get access to for cleaning an...

possible crossover?

Hi there. This is my first post and I hope to be a member of ARMA soon. I have a question about technique. I am trying to study the european longsword and was wondering if the skills would translate to the katana. The reason for this question is that, in my experience it is easier to care for a kata...
