Notable Manuals

Can anyone tell me which manuals have the most information on unarmed skills? I'm familiar with the Petter Manuscript of course but I'm looking for things that are a little earlier. Fiore's work of course has a large section on unarmed skills, but other than that, what can people recommend ?

There are a number of ARMA members in washington, but most of us are in the Seattle, Tacoma Everett area. I'm afraid we're all kinda old fogeys in comparison to you. I know of no other youth types, sorry.

Hey fellow Seattleites, yes, we have a number of people in the area and one official study group! Most members are either in the Tacoma area, or, like myself, on the eastside. Feel free to contact me via PM and I will provide you with more information as well as a time and place for everyone to meet...

It's portugese in origin, though it has been said that it may have been strongly influenced or straight imported from India.

here, the wikipedia article is pretty good.

I'm not familiar with when the first contacts were, but I do seem to remember katanas being described as scimitars or sabers in literature from the earliest contact with japanese culture.

Can't recall anything more useful than that.

Just my 2 cents. We all strive for accuracy in what we do, and that's a good thing, however, sometimes it seems like we can end up bogged down in minute details, and forget the larger picture. Yes, when we practice a technique, we may be doing it "wrong". But what is wrong? If it's a devia...

Something else to consider is that concepts of perspective and anatomy didn't really show in europe until the 15th century, and weren't terribly common until much later. Many of the plates that I see I tend to assume are fairly stylized and attempt to see them not as they are, but as what the artist...

Cheapest gorget I know of. Can't give any recommendations as to how effective it is. They also have kendo/baton sparring helmets for a reasonable price.

New Member, Seattle.

I've posted some stuff in the unarmed discussion area, but here is my official greeting to all of ARMA. My name is Kevin, I'm a bartender and bouncer by trade. My (largely unrequited) love affair wth European Martial arts started in 1988 when my mother took me to see "Willow". Yeah, I know...
