Images in the Web Documentary

I was watching these again the other day, and while I recognize many of the images used, I saw two messer images that I do not, the first in part 1 at 03:53, the second in part 7 at 03:39. Does anyone know where these come from, and if so, whether the sources are anywhere on the web?

Yeah, I agree with you there that it's the one with the most mystique that seems to win every time. Maybe because of 300 the Spartans will have some 'mystique-power' though. It is a computer doing the determination, and so the formula probably is 'which one is cooler in the movies?' since the fight ...

And as I've posted before, there were actually several people in that family with the title of 'Longsword' with the first William Longsword living in the 900s in Normandy. There are all kinds of theories as to what the name implies, some having to do with swords, all the way to some having to do wit...

It's interesting the assumed meaning that gets touted alot for this phrase. I showed it to a German professor (native speaker), who told me that the meaning is not so much 'what hurts, teaches' but rather 'what exerts, teaches.' The prof put it as 'if you are sweaty, then you've learned something.' ...

Actually, there are at least TWO attractive points of these plastic wasters. One, they are indeed cheaper than all the other wasters I've seen out there. Two, they're black. I mean, if they had matching red plastic I think they'd be able to sell a bunch to all the people who insist on black and red ...

Man I wish I could have gone to this one. But Valentine's Day is probably never going to be a good day for me to attend ARMA events. Though I couldn't make it for the ARMA seminar on the messer, I did recently purchase Hans Heim's and Alex Kiermayer's dvd on the messer. One does have to take it with...

If you are looking at historical fighting with animals, modern bullfighting might also give you some clues. It is of course highly sportified and ritualized, but is a descendant of gladitorial games. Plus, to the bull it's not really a sport; it's life-and-death. Spain and various Latin American cou...

It's better than the swordplay in the first movie, but still has much room for improvement. Then again, I don't know that anyone really watches the narnia movies to see historical anything. They are fantasy stories with a nice message (at least for those of us practicing any form of Christianity - I...

Fiore Dagger and Wrestling

I recently discovered a book on the above subject at artsofmarsbooks.com by a Colin Richards. Does anyone know whether Mr. Richards is a reliable source regarding this material? I'm trying to do more with unarmed/dagger techniques, and I already have Jay's excellent - and much less expensive - book ...

On this 2 sword idea, I've come across the term 'case of falchions' in reference to James Miller, and early 18th century English prize player. Has anyone ever seen any data on this style? Obviously, it might have been somewhat similar to the idea of a case of thrusting swords, but since falchions ar...

Ummm, yeah, I'm going to have to disagree with the original post. Europeans as a whole did not choose straight, double-edged swords all of the time. Think of the above mentioned messers, as well as other falchions, backswords, dussacks, and of course the sabre which lasted the longest out of any eur...

Yeah, I've been waiting on the Leckuchner book from Forgeng for a long time now. I've asked Chivalry Bookshelf about it, and they never did respond. I hope the project didn't get scrapped. I didn't realize that a Mair book was on the same status.

I don't know of any published books on Paulus Hector Mair besides the Polearms book, and that's certainly not by Forgeng! I googled Paulus Hector Mair, and found that the Higgins Armory does have a pdf out there on some longsword material from Mair, but that's about all I could find. And the pdf is ...

Huh. And I always thought it was just part of the contest to see who can be the biggest ARMA geek around.
Now I should actually go out and buy a pair of red socks since there's a real purpose. . .
Who am I kidding? For me it would be to fit in with the other ARMAteers.
