I practice naked and oiled, like the Greeks of old. Aren't the plates in Capo Ferro also naked?

Bah no wonder I'm having trouble starting up a study group.

Re: Mongol and European comparitive tactics?

Aye, but how worthwhile was Vegetius?...sorry...classics geek here. :( Not all knights were expert tacticians and fighters anymore than all samurai or all mughals were etc. However, bear in mind that as the warrior class the vast majority would have simply had to be capable. Also, knighthood was so...

Aren't there four groups in Sweden and several around Poland? Well yes (actually there are at least at least nine Swedish groups ...with varying levels of cooperation, so it might depend on how you count). There are also groups in Britain, Denmark, Norway, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Austria...

Any time I get into a discussion of William Marshal I begin to feel like one of those sad people who expend all their energy worshipping Bruce Lee. Marshal was simply a phenomenal individual. Easily one of the coolest warriors in history. Sorry. Obviously my fawning contributes nothing of substance...

Re: Alfred the Warrior

I am, however, not so sure that Alfred the Great would fit so comfortably amongst so illustrious a list. He certainly was no warrior, indeed he was almost constantly ill, as for as a strategos well...just think of what happened as Rochester, a victory yes but nowhere near what it should have been. ...

Re: Article & Figures

Lets talk about that article and other historical European figures, shall we? :?: Gillingham makes it clear that he had to confront notions originating from amongst his peers in the so-called academic community. He points out who was on the right track (of course, those who agree with him), and who...

I'm far from an expert, but I really really don't think that to be the case. The Estoc I believe is roughly the equivalent of an arming blade? A one handed sword used by knights in conjunction with a shield (Most obvious citation at the moment is probably "The Last Duel") whereas the Rapie...

The dark ages meant different things to different people. Here in Britain, before the onset of the Germanic Saxons we now look at it not as an absence of knowledge, but a revival of native culture (not the flowery neo paganism crap) tinged with Roman idealism. For example, despite the churches state...
