Hi guys. This article is well, all the words I can thikn of seem cliche... but what comes to mind is "absurd", "laughable", .. I guess I'll go with "ridiculous". I'd like to continue but my stomach is getting upset. Peace, Tim Sheetz Sadly his blog is an excellent examp...

Re: ARMA Virginia Beach...Looking for new members

Hi Shane, Well maybe some day I'll live down there and join you regularly... Until then.. .good luck! :-) Tim Sheetz Well, Life has intruded and my fellow Swordsmen in the VAB Study Group have all been drawn off by the real world to far-flung parts of the Country for awhile. That leaves me pretty mu...

Re: Types of strength considered for swordplay?

For non-standard conditioning, you can carry a 40 pound sand bag for a 2 mile run, wiht several training partners, switch off the bag every minute. Carry a large stick in one hand while you do this.... I did this for our work-out. I called it the "URUK Run"... and named the sandbag "t...

Aaron, that is very disciplined indeed. With discipline like that, you should work in law enforcement or military....... When starting out, when training on my own, I flourished a lot. It pays off to do this as it is physically exhausting and helps you learn to FLOW from one action into another seam...

Re: additional videos

Lance, Good job on the tournament sparring. It is clear you have a much better training regimen than your opponents do. After the first couple of bouts, they seemed a bit scared - or maybe hesitant is a better word - in their actions. You definitely had a good showig for the medieval long sword. Pea...

Fanstastic (as I said it would be)

Well I have finally gotten back to my house and recovered from jet lag, so now I can say something coherently. I would like to echo what those before me have said, and send Aaron and Stew my congratulations. "Thank you for a job well-done" to the event organizers. Well run and well planned...

Hi Jason, Here is a way you can work it into your regular training. When conducting normal drills or sparring, add a knife to your belt/boot, etc.... and then just focus on your main weapon. A designated third person watches and shouts loudly without warning "KNIFE!!!" Upon hearing this, t...

Hi all, I had to comment on this part, even if the individual is no longer part the discussion... It was written: "As to the West being the only group to leave Mysticism behind - what about Japan? What about China which is officially an atheist country? They seem to have left mysticism and reli...

I think the water goes where the salt goes. I have only seen one case in all my years of training where someone "went down" due to too much water... and it was because they were stupid, training hard in a field environment and decided to skip a meal except for a very small yogurt.... then ...

Re: Muslim swords

Hi Sunay, I'm being picky here... Isn't the proper term "Islamic swords" not "Muslim swords"? I'm not trying to be all PC about it just wondering as to the proper sword terminology is all. We wouldn't call European swords "Christian swords" would we? Correct me if I'm w...

Hi Shane, I think you want to make sure you wear a mask a goggles when cutting and especially power sanding the Purple Heart. You don't want to breathe in the dust. I think Purpleheart is very dense and hard... the problems I have had with it in the past is that a solid impact on it will make a slig...

Re: Footwear?

I usually wear wrestling shoes with very minimal tread on them. I also use leather turn shoes and at one point wore some light slipper-like dance shoes (which I think are the best way to get historical style traction without paying for a turn shoe). I have worn light weigh basketball shoes, and aero...

LANCE! You beat him up and took his lunch money! ;-) Seriously, you didn't even get nasty or even use some of your more robust attacks on him. Good Job. He now knows the difference between an art form and a martial art. It reflects well on his character that he wants to come back and learn more. I h...
