Re: Quarterstaff in the Americas

I ran across this while searching the forums for something entirely unrelated. After reading it, I may have had an epiphany of sorts: "At another time this Deponent was desired by the Prisoner, to come unto a husking of Corn, at her House; and she said, If he did not come, it were better that h...

Pronunciations of fundamental WMA terminology

Hey guys, I'm doing a short demonstrative speech on WMA in my Public Speaking class. I was wondering if some of our multilingual scholars would be willing to break down the masterstrikes and guards phonetically for me. Thank you, guys.

I myself have neither the time, skill nor means to accomplish designing my own, so a couple of ideas for those who do: Has anyone attempted using a tapered metal rod up the center? Perhaps just through the strong, maybe up to 3/4 of its blade length? As long as the metal is flexible (not bendable) a...

Stance width in guards?

I'm noticing a lot of the later manuals show a much wider stance (i.e. Meyer) than is suggested by many of the earlier fechtbuchs. Which is preferred for proper martial soundness?

Houston 1.0

Hey guys, I had a few quick questions. I plan on attempting to save for the trip to the Houston NTP 1.0 in June, but I have a few speed bumps to overcome: 1. Though I've been active on the forums, my application for membership has not been approved yet. I understand that John has 342308 bazillion th...

What one book would you recommend most for a first book? I've been heavily leaning to Meyer... and it's my b-day on Friday, and I get one book. I must choose wisely.

Amazon review of Forgeng's Art of Combat

I highly recommend this book for anyone into Western Martial Arts. Earlier German authors on martial arts tend to be more cryptic in their descriptions even after translation. Meyer, on the other hand, gives explicit instructions and provides transitions from one section to the next. As a practitio...
