I wouldn't go so far as to say that rapier is sissyfied, but I would kind of agree that it doesn't feel quite as "manly" to me as cutting and striking weapons do. I don't think that makes it any less challenging to fight with or against though. However, I'm beginning to understand Silver'...

I guess I'm not the only guy in ARMA who thinks the rapier is a sissyfied weapon then? Silver was right! :? 8) As Stacy said, you guys keep it scholarly and well reasoned. Actually, in looking back through the thread, Brandon seems to have been the only one to express that opinion dir...

Sorry they hurt your feelings, Will. No worries...delicate, I ain't. Stacy's right, though, we've sidetracked this thread long enough. "Horse, meet water. The rest is up to you." To everyone, let's try to keep this thread on topic about the Masters book from here on and take other subject...

Forgive me, friends, while I burn some karma. No need to take this to PM by the way. The point of posting on a forum is discussing it in public. If you're going to start a PM discussion with each person that disagrees, for each and every post you make... Actually, Vince, I changed my mind. You're qu...

Re: Response to Ilkka's posted criticisms--WARNING! VERY LO

...The reason is that many of the criticisms fall into an area that can be usefully discussed from my own background as a professional academic writer and college professor who has quite a few years of martial arts experience, a couple of which are in HEMA, specifically with ARMA. I hope Ilkka won'...

Please note once again that Brandon has repeatedly stated in this thread that he is not a member of ARMA. Though he may be arguing in our favor, his views are still his own and do not represent all of us. Noted. I've added a sig to avoid contributing to that confusion myself. And Ilkka's right, a s...

From my own research, Martinez's "maestro" was a ballet dancer. No exactly confidence-inducing for our subject. It's not my place to argue for or against the Martinez Academy's credentials. But could you elaborate on why you find dance to be incompatible with fence? What credentials? And,...

The Martinez Academy of Arms could make that claim based on 200+ years of living lineage. No. That would require 200+ years of living lineage, which I do not believe they actually have, and which no one can produce actual evidence for. From my own research, Martinez's "maestro" was a ball...

Re: Szabolc

No, he quite clearly stated, "The organization is without equal in the community." I'm inclined to agree. When you look at the volume and overall quality of published research, the number of respectable scholars, teachers and fighters, and the breadth of public outreach produced by ARMA, ...

Re: Szabolc

I haven't read the book in question yet and so have yet to form an opinion. But having done some exploration of Fiore, I like Ilkka's general observations.

That aside, I'd be interested to hear more on this theme...

ARMA has no peers...

Mr Elder, I apologize for not informing you of my desire to cancel the registration. Your concern is duly noted. I hope that my comment on the cost of 4W did not appear to be a judgment regarding the value or quality of the event, I recognize many of the names there as leading researchers in the hi...

There is the Academia Della Spada is hosting the 4W event this weekend. I almost registered, but changed my mind when I saw the cost involved. Is this the event you were thinking of? 4W? Yeah, was thinking of going to that too, but same for me with the extremely high cost. A few of us were thinking...
