Hi all,

I was inspired to put together a short video featuring images from manuals and clips of ARMA members doing our thing.

It can be viewed here:

My brother is there also and may be interested. He has come to training with me once or twice when he was home. PM me your email and I'll pass it to him.

At least they are acknowledging that it is THEATRICAL with the intent of dramatizing and entertaining. But, yes, it would be really nice if these things came with a disclaimer that they are not historically accurate nor martially sound for the benefit of the masses who can't seperate fantasy and rea...

Cool! They labeled the date as circa 1410...is that just based on Flos Duellatorum in Armis?

I'm certainly no expert but that video looked more like sport fencing than historical technique. Although there were a few grabs at blades...is that allowed in fencing? (I'm a complete ignoramous about the rules of sport fencing.) I've only browsed the so-called rapier manuals but the only "cut...

Longsword--mostly because that is what I've worked with the most and thus feel the most comfortable with. I'm so used to a two-handed weapon now it almost feels awkward to handle a side sword or rapier. If I do, I always want something in my other hand like a buckler or dagger. I do have some skinny...

Welcome, Anthony! It sounds like you are starting out well. There are several great books written by ARMA members, too. Check out the Research&Reading area for more info. Be sure to use the articles and manuals on the ARMA website to help guide your studies and practice as well. I have experienc...

Interesting topic, Shane, thanks for posting it. I have really enjoyed hearing other people's stories. I am the type of person who loves to do crazy things. They make good stories. I had just gotten out of an 8-year relationship and was sort of looking for my girl-power when I found ARMA. I had neve...

Greece Event

Have there been any developments for the NTP 1.1 in Greece? I'm worried about the rising prices of plane tickets so if I'm going to be able to go at all, I'm going to have to book a flight soon but no dates have been posted.

Katherine, I wish you luck and hope you do well if you fight. I am curious, though, is the connection you make between the dog brothers and ARMA simply in the martial spirit? I watched the video of them fighting and have a hard time seeing how studying historical medieval weapons will be of much use...

I don't know anything about this but I would say probably closer to sport fencing than martially sound fights for several reasons: 1. They took place at the height of the Victorian era, which is arguably the biggest culprit of the loss and redefinition of WMA 2. They call it a "competition"...
