Re: What would be useful (and legal) In SCA games?

As a long time SCA member who has spent two years fighting just to be allowed to study documented medieval martial systems in my area of the SCA, I can understand your criticisms. The best answer has already been given: "The SCA is what it is." That said, let me offer a few ideas that migh...

Re: Northwest Academy of Arms I.33 Video

Okay, here's what I think at the moment. The Priest and the Scholar stand out of distance in undefined positions. The Priest takes the initiative and advances his right foot to the far edge of wide distance, assuming the 1st Ward. The Scholar responds by advancing his foot to the middle of wide dist...

Re: Northwest Academy of Arms I.33 Video

interesting, I prefer to just do a passing step, traversing to my left as I fall from 1st ward, because of this I will be more likely to go to a schiltslac than a stichslac. However, if I cut his right wrist I will immediatly follow it up with a thrust to his upper chest, throat, or face. Because I...

Re: Sword & Buckler vs Long Sword

Couple of thoughts: -Because your buckler can protect the hand and wrist of your sword arm you shouldn't lose much range. -Because your buckler creates a 'protected' area in front of your body you can commit your blade later than your longsword opponent. -Create a threat before entering into range. ...

I.33 Flowcharts

I have posted two flowcharts that deal with the 4 binds in I.33. These charts can be found at: http://home.armourarchive.org/members/jester/I33/I33_Flowchart.html Please note: These charts do not represent the entire system, they don't even represent everything that can happen at the bind. The chart...

Re: Charron test cutting

Bob Charron asked me to post this message for him: To the scholars of ARMA, A friend informed me of this thread, and so decided to take a look and see for myself. I suppose the greatest disappointment of all this was that while my e-mail address is available on the very site that these videos appear...

Re: Charron test cutting

Interesting. I have the exact opposite view. I want slow, detailed instruction that I can then take back and evaluate for myself at speed.

Within that umbrella we currently have two study groups: a Fiore study group and a Ringeck/Lichtenauer study group. Instructors are brought out based ent...

Re: Leg cuts in SCA`

Actually, I wasn't arguing that "leg cuts don't matter" I was saying that they are ill-advised against a skilled opponent in single combat and, thus, not a big loss to the SCA. If you want to be accurate then you need to have leg cuts. The SCA, on the other hand, is more concerned with saf...

Re: Fiore Seminar, Denver

I'm glad you guys had a good time and I'd like to thank you for attending. I would have been very disappointed if folks didn't treat you well since a tolerance for disparate views is the key tenet of the Rocky Mountain Historical Combat Guild. Sorry about the lack of free sparring but I didn't feel ...
