Nathan: I have basket envy!!! Thats a great hilt- though I agree with you on the blade. I'd rather have it like the original. I think I like the cross with the upturned/downturned quillions better too. http://www.myarmoury.com/albums/displayimage.php?album=15&pos=50 Hi Allen- I love the origina...

Re: Trying out basket hilt swords

http://www.angustrimdirect.com/models/35/35_600w.jpg That sword is in my own collection. The handling characteristics, while quite nice in the hand, aren't based on anything in particular in terms of historical swords or antiques. For the life of me, I can't figure out what the blade is based on. I...

Yeah, I know, I liked that too, but it's apparently not a feature of this one. It's open source though, so I'll have to see if maybe somebody out there has designed a plugin that might do the trick. The new forums look great, and I appreciate all the hard work that has been done. Just one thing I w...

Re: Albion sword edge damage

Yes, not only do I understand, that was my point. My machete was designed, however haphazardly they "design" a $5 machete, to cut with. The sword wasn't. What a screwed up comment. You're either being flippant and rude or showing a complete lack of understanding of the whole subject. I ca...

Re: Albion sword edge damage

I agree, but to expect a War sword to react like a War sword is not unreasonable. Please see the post-mortem bone as a test cutting medium. I believe that the Farensic anthropology deptment at UT may have a better feel for what to expect from "dead" bone and what not to. For the record, t...

Re: Atlanta Blade Show '05 visit

John, I was super pleased to meet you! What a surprise. I had not known your move to Atlanta was complete yet so it was quite the shock to see you walking around. Good times, man, good times.

Re: Albion sword edge damage

But I still am failing to see how it is unreasonable to expect a 500 (or in Lance's case +1500) dollar sword to perform at the same level as a South American machette made from questionable metal with questionable heat treatment that I bought at Smokey Mountain Knifeworks for $5 plus tax. And there...

Re: Albion sword edge damage

Lances sword lost the very edge of his, the thread is at http://www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=4091 and http://www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=4150 They pretty much gave Lance a real hard time, for no more than reporting the Facts. Please take a moment to read the topics again. Lance...

Re: Falchion/Messer fans

"The Grosse Messer review mentioned an original that was 46 inches long at about 3.5 pounds. That would be a treat to hold." You're off by about a pound. <img src="/forum/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" /> One of the swords I mention in the review has these stats: OL:46....

Re: Announcing a new website.

Hey Todd- Thanks much.. and, of course, please do link to it. We're putting this site together for the greater good of the sword community. Now that might sound really altruistic, but really it's quite self-serving. The healthier the community and market is, the better for us all. Every Monday bring...

Re: Stockholm Seminar & Research Trip

Interestingly, I was just looking at this photo the other day. I scanned it because it was so intriguing to me. It certainly looks to be the very same sword you're handling. http://www.kattnet.com/weapons/two-handed-cutlass.jpg I was thining of having it replicated. Your posted thoughts certainly do...
