Yes MARE (single arming sword) is different from what would have been used earlier (the weapon is longer, made from steel and has a guard). The techniques would be closer to Roman techniques than those of later Europe. The early Roman iron weapons would have been only marginally stronger in tensile ...

I think George Silver's opinion was based more on his dislike of Italians and their foreign weapons than any real evidence.

I recommend judo or brazilian jiujitsu, or classic wrestling, or le gouren, or basically any grappling art as the primary tool for someone seeking realistic self defense. Mainly because - if you know how to grapple, you know how to get out of grapples. Police are much more understanding of "I ...

I don't think anybody has answered the first question in detail yet. But I don't think you can answer it without explaining why militaries train their soldiers the way they do (if you don't care just skip to my last paragraph). I, personally, feel that modern militaries train soldiers in forward han...

I always like reading about early primieval cultures like the Vikings and the American Indians.... They live so much closer to dangers and in constant danger getting killed and having their cultures wiped out, that they have to learn how to fight well and to be resourceful to find food. Life for th...

I might split it up into monthly goals. Makes it so you can more effectively evalutate your progress and if you get a bit behind you can pick up some slack the next month. Or if the whole endevour is doomed, you'll know within the month. Good luck

Not to belabor the point but it depends on what weapons you wish them to emulate. Do you want to be accurate to the weapon or just make it sound impressive? Either way you need somebody with stage experience because to be honest I wouldn't know how to dumb down the technical language we use so that ...

I've not read this book and it sounds like he is talking about modern fencing to me. But the book is set in some sort of pre renaissance setting, right (at least a world with no guns)? So to be accurate it would have to be some sort of single hand sword length (roughly the size of a fire poker) weap...

A lot of the techniques in the Nuremberg manuals will overlap between sources. So if your having trouble with Mair, take a look through Codex Wallerstein and Durer as well.
