Yeah, I know. I once handled a Turkish sabre once and it was amazing how light and well balanced it was. It felt almost like a feather - you could relly do amazing things with it. Unfortunately I have not had such an experience with an original longsword and I am not experienced enough to have any &...
Hi guys, I have a specific question conc. longsword point of balance (POB). Where do you think it should be located? I have browesd the net, but have not been able to fins any reliable information conc. the issue. I only found weights and dimensions but no POB references. Cheers Olgierd
Hi all, I've got the SCH 40 PVC, and some other materials. Before I have a go at making the padded sword, I would like to ask you a few additional questions: - what are you using for the end cap - 3/4'' iron pipe cap? - if you screw the end cap directly onto the PVC pipe (smeared with glue I suppose...
If you are soloing, you can always use a swinging pell - that's what I've been using for a couple of days now. At least it may teach you voiding and basic countercuts (to some extent, of course). Just swing it hard, and when it comes back at you - void and strike. It's more difficult than it may see...
Thank you all for input I've tried the things that have been suggested at my pell practice, and it was waaay batter. Currently I am making a hanging pell (a block of wood covered with some padding), which IMHO is better than stationary one. You can also improvise a hanging pell out of water bottles ...
Hi all, Recently I read somewhere that it is not good for your joints to hit empty air. In other words - you should hit something solid (a pell is usually better suited to this than your partner ), so as not to run the risk of inj...
Yeah, an article with detailed instructions would be really nice and much appreciated. In Poland we started making padded swords but they broke - as was to be expected So it seems to me that PVC might be the way to go... Cheers
OK, perhaps I did not make myself clear: If possible, bowyers will tend to select wood without knots when thay have the chance. However, in some cases good wood was scarce and they had to make do with what was available (knotty wood). They did not cut the knots out, but sort of "flowed with the...
An article about English longbows and how they are supposed to be have been made in the past: http://www.student.utwente.nl/~sagi/artikel/longbow/longbow.html Personally, I think that if you want to take up archery, instead of making your own bow it is better to find a bowyer who can give you some a...
It is also called a 3-weapon mask. It is named this because it is built to be used against all 3 weapon types of sport fencing (foil, epee, & saber), and is much stronger than a standard mask designed for foil only.
If you melt wax, you must be very careful - yoo don't want to heat it over the stove (it is dangerous). The best way is to have two containers. Fill the bigger one with water, put the smaller one into it and heat the water. Wax in the smaller container should melt without any problems. Cheers Olgierd
Yeah, I know about additional (or basic - depending on the point of view) body exercises. I am also trying to do them as often as I can. I do not use elevator and walk quite a lot My question was more about getting used to wieldi...
That's probably bacause most of us realize (at least I do ) that we cannot really achieve their level of conditioning. If old records are to be believed, our ancestors practiced regularly on a daily (or almost daily) basis. How ma...
