Topic: Is Joachim Meyer's "longsword" a Two Hand Sword?

Hi James. In regards to your questions, I wouldn't say Meyer's longsword is a true two hander in the sense of a Spadone or Montante. Granted, big longswords did become common during this time and existed along all manner of standard longswords and bastard swords, and Meyer's "style" does s...

Hello Ethan. Glad to see someone so enthusiastic about starting out. I know I certainly was when I was younger. As for translated manuscript options, I have many books in my library and depending on which weapons you want to study you'll probably be going for a good number of them like I did. If you...

Just like Farthing stated above, I personally prefer the Meyer between the two, but there are days the Liechtenauer grows on me.

Hey Scott. I have both swords. Next time you swing by for a visit I'll let you play around with both and you can choose from there! :) Nothing like first hand experience to help one decide!

Regarding the Cold Steel... one word: NO If youre going to go plastic, then use the Pentii Type III synthetic as it was designed to mimic the handling of a steel sword (though it admittedly is slightly on the light side in terms of mass, but all non-steel swords will have that problem). As for steel...

Re: attendance at practices

Definitely check out any group first and thoroughly examine them before joining anything. If you like it and it suits you, fine; if not, just as fine and keep your eyes peeled for something better to come along.

Re: Assassin's Creed !

I was wondering if Ubisoft got their combat from the historic manuals. What do you all think? Does the fighting look like anything from the treatises? :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D There are SOME finishing moves and other little concepts, particularly in AC:II and AC:B, that kinda sorta look like some of...

Regenyei, Ensifer, and Pavel Moc Are quickly becoming some of the darlings of the European market right about now. I hear they make some amazing weapons and training tools.

I have this book and find it to be a good read and a nice thesis on the Universal European Art and how it segues into the English material. I would recommend it wholeheartedly. :)

Thats the excellent thing about the Armizare book. The author clearly states that all of Fiore's quotes in his book will come from Tom's translation of the Getty. So while you wont get the whole entirety of the text of Tom's book (which I also plan to get one day) like the prologue and paragraphs in...

Very cool. I think I have fair concerns of the editing as I am sure many others do too. Commentary on misunderstanding and misconception related to historical close combat, swordplay, and the public/media obsession with katanas and kenjutsu ." Uh oh! As soon as katanas are thrown in to the mix...

Roger, from what I have read about pike warfare, the idea of a thrusting katzbalger isnt all that farfetched given that it was a last resort weapon used once the formations got packed in very tightly and there was no room for pikes and longswords to be swung around.
