I apologize I just wrote too much. I was trying to say that a master smith was not need to forge a sword that would work. A master smith was needed to make a sword that would survive longer than it's user.

LafayetteCCurtis beat me too the parry as it were :) but I a a hobby blacksmith and i can easily make a "usable" sword, however the word usable is subjective. So many words in our conman tongue mean many different things or rather conjure up different meanings in our heads when we read the...

I have applied for membership a few weeks ago but for now there is not anyone else practicing near me. Dallas Fort Worth is 3hrs away and when accepted I plan on contacting them for a visit. I just got Clements's Medieval swordsmanship and have been reading it in my down time. I know its not a how t...

Pell question

As a beginner how often do you use a pell? I work on mine once a week even though the disrespect is there for more than that my endurance is not and I worry about developing bad habits trying to use it when tired.

I work just footwork and guard transition mostly now, any other advice to add in ?

I sanded the epoxy skin coat smooth and added a leather wrap on the handle. I weighted the waster and it came in a just over 2 .25 lbs. I drilled a hole in the handle to add weight too later but for now I will use it without the weight to begin with. All that is left are a few coats of polyurethane....

I can offset the blance where I need it to be so no problem there and I can make that weight easy as well. I finished profiling the blank, rounded the edges, add the diamond wood cross guard to the hilt and add the epoxy skin coat. I put her back in the oven and will check in a few hours then add a ...

Got up earlier and pulled the sword blank from the oven. I had cured the blank for 4 hours @ 180 degrees using my bow oven. Looks nasty huh :) http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz148/Erratus/longsword/100_0555.jpg http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz148/Erratus/longsword/100_0556.jpg [/img]

While I was looking around in the shop I found a wood that is heavier, stronger and most of all tougher than hickory , Osage Orange. I also found a piece of hard wild cherry that i will add to either side of the osage then sandwich it all with hickory. The guard will be made up of the osage strips w...

laminated waster?

has anyone built a laminated waster and if you did how did it hold up? I will be laminating one out of hickory lamination that I had leftover from building a longbow. I can take pics, if that is welcomed, of the process. In the end I think it will be more than strong enough for the purpose. Any thou...
