Thank you, I guess I've been overlooking that word as I read through Fiore's work on Wiktenauer.

Thank you! I understand now completely how the florysh works. I gave it a go yesterday and I'm doing half decent with it. I just have a difficult time combining Fendente's fluidly. I'm fine with Volanti, Fendenti, and thrusts (couldn't find the Italian term for thrusts) but when it comes to those do...

Ah, so basically it is an exercise based upon the techniques you know, no matter the style of swordsmanship you're studying. That makes much more sense now. Now is there exactly a proper way to go about performing a florysh or is it strictly what you know and you get better at is as you learn?

Question on Flourish's

So I've been improving over these long months with my fencing capabilities, as well as my perception of the old manuscripts. I know it has been a while since I posted on here but I have been going through much training but I am trying to improve even more by tackling flourish's. If you have read any...

Question concerning "The Flower of Battle" by Fior

Now I have been on Wiktenauer, studying Fiore's work and taking a great deal of notes and, being a beginner, some terms he uses I am unfamiliar with. In the beginning of the part where he talks about the Longsword in two hands, he talks about the guard that is "Six Masters" and said it wil...

@John: I saw that book in a local book store recently but unfortunately I didn't have the money to buy it, even though it was on sale :/ @Andrew: I wish there was someone who also took up Historical Fencing around my area but unfortunately I am the only person in South Florida. I could, and intend o...

Where to start with studying Manuscripts?

So, I have been at this for a little bit of time now, dedicating a lot of time at the Pel outside and doing research. I am trying to teach myself The Italian School of Combat because, with my circumstances, I cannot study with others or study under a more knowledgeable Scholar on that particular sch...

A question of proper sword "cutting"

So I have been looking through all my PDF documents and all my sources I have so far and many of them, mainly with a sword and shield, have you throwing an attack or "cut" by either putting your hip into it and not stepping into it. Now I read somewhere that a proper cut with the sword, yo...

And ahhh okay. Very cool, I need to start reading up on this much more often lol.

Random question on sword & rotella.

So Sword & Rotella is one of the many fighting techniques I have been extremely interested in but a question popped in my head. We all are pretty aware that the Rotella or Target was used with a Rapier, but was it also used with a Bastard Sword, or even a Side Sword?

@Stacy. Ahh okay, perfect! I think once I get some money I should buy that book, as well as many others. Also I'm glad that the information is useful because that was my biggest interest when it comes to HEMA. I've always wanted to learn Sword and Shield, so to know that this PDF has some good infor...

@Stacy. I understand completely what you are saying, all I meant was I was looking for someone who was more knowledgeable on the subject to help me further my skill in HEMA, so I apologize for the mistake haha, I am quite new to this so I was unaware of that being a peeve (which makes sense though)....

Is this information correct?

SO I was looking for sword and shield techniques and I found this PDF

http://ordoprocinctus.com/tutorials/swo ... shield.pdf

It is greatly detailed and has good information but my issue is that this seems too simple to be correct. So is this good information to go off of?

Any training groups/schools in South Florida?

Okay so I have been trying to teach myself Longsword alone (2 hands) and Sword and Rotella because I have become extremely interested in HEMA and it has become a very fond passion of mine. I have learned quite a bit but not enough to ever go up against someone. So I decided I need to train under a m...
