Re: Cauliflower ear

I have heard a few people at my BJJ school complain that headgear never stays tight enough and usually makes cauliflower ear worse. I'm not really sure about its ability to prevent cauliflower ear though. I've only had it lightly once and it went away pretty easily with some time off. If you've neve...

I say start working on flexibility, your much more likely to get injured if your inflexible.

Re: Catch Wrestling

I noticed someone gave a link to Tony Cecchine's website. I don't mean to contest the skill or ability of the turn of the century professional wrestlers, and nothing I am about to say is any solid proof, but I think everyone should take some things into consideration before spending hundreds of doll...

Re: Theory: Why No Rear Naked Choke

What do you guys think of this trachea choke:
http://www.catchwrestle.com/blogs/index.php?p=23&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1#more23

It doesn't give the guy much of an opportunity to pull a knife, but it wouldn't incapacitate someone as fast as a strangle (like an RNC.)

Re: Egyptian Wrestling Images

Does anyone have an idea if the black lines around the waist could be a belt? I don't know much about Ancient Egyptian art or wrestling, but I'm guessing it's probably just a way of representing the waist. But say it is a belt; I'm pretty sure there is a move in Judo where you sprawl out with the si...

Re: The History and Heritage Article

Casper Bradak said: There are many, many medieval books on the art of war, not dealing with personal technique as in the fencing manuals, but with large scale tactics, strategy and logistics. I don't want to get in the middle of your argument, but I'm quite interested in this idea, and have never he...

Re: New Stuff

Jeanry, Do you think boxing would help develop the vor, nach, indes kind of timing Ringeck described? It always seemed to me that the best foundation for WMA weapons would be Western unarmed combat. Wrestling for leverage, control and obviously throws. And Boxing for a developed sense of range, timi...

Re: The dangers of groundfighting in WMA

Casper, I think NHB and MMA are good examples of "real fighting" and in no way favor strikers. Especially in the earlier days before McCain and angry mothers stepped in, most MMA tournaments only had rules against Biting and Eye Gouging, some later outlawed Fishhooking. Even if someone vio...

Re: The dangers of groundfighting in WMA

Heh, honestly, the only people who I hear say fights from grappling when standing invariably go to the ground are groundfighters. The only people I hear argue that, are Kickboxers and Eastern Martial Artists, many of which believe that their Chi/Ki will finish their opponents for them. Ironically, ...

Re: The dangers of groundfighting in WMA

other reasons to stay off the ground in a modern context would be rocks, broken glass, concrete/asphalt, used medical needles, etc. But in these situations, the danger is equal for your opponent. And if you are more skilled than your opponent in ground fighting then you may use these things to your...

Re: Amazing Misinformation

Yes, your right, he does need to be held responsible. I just wanted to point out that he didn't invent this nonsense himself. He comes from a very strong background of it. Maybe the fact that I myself spouted off less severe comments about Medieval Combat just several years ago turned me a bit soft ...

Re: Amazing Misinformation

I cannot find the quote about 50-70 pound swords, he must have deleted it. It looks like that to me too. I send my complaint to the webmaster. Does anyone know if the author submitted the article to any other websites? But you can't blame the guy, he does sport fencing and choreography. But I still...

Re: Amazing Misinformation

I'm surprised he made that claim when he had this information: "Vikings were primarily sword warriors. From observation of their swords, they appear to be neither particularly too heavy, nor in practised hands, particularly cumbersome. The average weight was no more than two and a half pounds a...

Re: A Question on Medieval Two-Weapon Fighting

Posted by Kyle Stickling Do you think the differences between the cut and thrust sword and a more medieval version are so different that I can't use that as a base of study? I'd also like an awnser to this question. From what I have seen, most medieval swords lack ricasso's, which seems quite import...
