Probably count me in. I'm 2.5 hours away.

Will--not sure of tourist stuff in Fresno, but see cycling in your profile interests--good cycling that time of year at the coast where I'm at.

Re: Footwear?

I said wrestling shoes above, but somebody mentioned turnshoes by Historic Enterprises. I have a pair of those also. They can be slippery in grass and modern smoth surface, like an indoor basketball court. Good on dirt, gravel. Also have used "kung-fu" slippers, that grip somewhere between...

Re: Question about Hatch and Galls gloves

I have the Galls; can't comment on Hatch. Overall. I like them, good protection, and lightweight. Couple of quibbles. The palm texture slips a bit a hard surfaces (like the bare wood of the waster--I leather wrapped the handle of my waster so it wouldn't become a projectile, with or without gloves)....

Corey--I hear ya'. Had similar experience, on my own at the moment. Above three replies said it best.

I know a guy at Malmstom Air Force Base (Great Falls?) that formed a small study group with me for awhile in CA, if you're interested.

Re: How did you get started?

Archery. Just in from some lunch hour archery practice and thought I’d cruise the forum—post because my story is a bit different than above. US military stationed in UK, became interested in history of the “old stuff” around me, in the village I lived, etc. Picked up a longbow to experience the Engl...

Just curious--any comparison between this and A&A Black Prince? I have the A&A (my only sword) and it would help me better relate to discussion.

Re: REALISTIC SPARRING WEAPONS?

I have 3 of the standard longswords. I think the link provided pretty much sums it. To answer your questions directly: Compare to other paddeds? Don't know, these are the only ones I've used, and ever seen, for that matter. Weigh/handle like real swords? The only example I have of a "real"...

Re: Did Knots on Pells serve a Purpose?

Did knots serve a purpose? I imagine so; it makes sense for the purpose of honing the targeting skills. As far as modern pells being cylindrical, I suppose they are built for their purpose and it depends on what you want out of it. I’ve heard some people talk about the feedback from the stick striki...

Re: Recommended Helmet for Padded / Waster practic

I have these (Galls). True, a bit slippery with wood. Another thing I found, is that there wasn't enough give across the top of the knuckles, making you work harder to grip, tiring the hands, and rubbing the knuckles raw. So I took the pads out of the top, scored them (put cuts not quite all the way...

Re: "Essential" Wasters

Norm!!! (said in "Cheers" voice). For what it's worth, I was thinking of getting another, and there was recent discussion here that indicated New Striling Arms and Little Raven were good options. But having others to supply a study group = expensive. Commisioning some from a woodworker is ...

Re: Historical solution for the scabbard during combat

Interesting question. I took a quick glance through some of the fight manual images I saved and didn’t see any scabbards. I don’t have any references, but I’ve heard a couple of solutions. Longsword is good from horseback due to extra length, and scabbard is attached to saddle. Smaller items, such a...
