Tom, Yes, I'm taller than some, rounder than most, and happy to accept where I am. Okay, not really happy, but change will come slow. Nothing to do but accept it and work for it. A friend and I are thinking about a study group. Our sons, though underage, like Narnia and are prime candidates for some...

Steven, In my head there's the image of a rapier fighter; nimble, fast, and flexible. I'm 0 for 3. So the question is mildly a case of "accept the obvious" or is it "realize you're going to have to work a lot harder at this"? I've gotten beat up by the North and South NJ crowd an...

Physiology, passion, and choice of weapon?

How much influence does physiology and passion play in choosing a weapon to spend time with? For example, is there a more natural agreement between us old and slow folk and the larger weapons? Are there a natural physical traits that favor rapier over longsword? Second to that, how much passion for ...

Morality and Fighting

Hmm...I'd have to agree that "right" in the moral sense of the rightness of combat and the warrior ethic is probably broader than my note implied. Zack mentions not fighting in anger or vanity; good advice and a start on defining right. I once knew a martial arts instructor who led a fairl...

Re: Trait's of a fighter

We have had a female cat for many years. Her willingness to get into a fight and close with the enemy is more a sign of being old and crochety than a warrior. I think the list is limited, and the discussion is even more limited. ...

Re: Albion sword edge damage

I think the title "beginner" fits me well. I don't have anyont to do freeplay with, and to be honest I'm not at a point where I'd feel comfortable with steel and another body. I would like to start on some cutting thoug...

Moderators, is there a way to delete a topic? Jake pointed me to the already going discussion.

If so, can you whack this whole thing?

Re: Albion sword edge damage

So for a person thinking of getting his first sword, would the Albion Squire line be better for test cutting and pell work on a tree than one of the more expensive models?

Would it be better to wait for the fall line of Maestro blades?

Re: A Context for the Groundfighting Debate

Tim scribeth: "I like this.. I have always been fond of this sort of thinking ever since my formative sparring experiences vs. my Dad specifically the time when he held me down on my back as he pulled off my helmet and "beat me in the head" with it. " That would explain a lot of ...

Re: Speed and Force

No matter how skilled your are you cannot control the other person. It is *very* easy for them to do the unexpected and move in closer. If they do you may not have time to stop the momentum of the blade.

Re: WMA Schools

Jake scribeth from the hot Arizona land: "So shut up everybody, pick up a sword and a manual, and train." I'm kinda pooped from this morning's workout but I do need to spend a little time on my training plan and a manual or three. While I catch my breath I wanted to disagree with you on th...

Re: Waster Sizing and Style

Good point--I'll note that mine has not had a lot of waster to waster full contact. We've done some knock-aways but I can't say she's made it through heavy use.

Re: Waster Sizing and Style

I'm about the same size and I have the longer NSA hand and a half. I occasionally hit the tip of the blade in the ground; if I had it to do over I'd get the shorter "B" model.

As far a balance and quality, they are SWEET! A bit pricey but no one who has used mine didn't lust for it...
