Re: ARMA Mobile, Alabama

Does anyone know if this group is still active? I sent an email about four days ago, and haven't received a response. I would really like to become a part of the ARMA, as I like the focus of the ARMA approach to realistic, effective European martial arts. Steven, I have been trying to get in touch ...

Trying to get in touch with Steven Mann

This is John Bentley and I am the Study Group Leader for ARMA Mobile. Steven has been trying to get in touch with me by email for about a week, saying he is interested in looking into coming to practice, but every time I try to reply to his email, the message gets bounced back without being delivere...

Re: Hockey Gloves

I bought a pair of the riot gloves. I'll let y'all know how they work. I looked at the light sparring gloves, and they look great. But as a beginner, I figured I would need the extra protection, and I have absolutely no finesse that could be compromised by the extra padding. Also, as a surgeon, I ca...

Hockey Gloves

I would like to buy a pair of hockey gloves to use for sparring. However, living in Mobile, AL, I can't just go down to the local sports equipment store and try on a pair. So, I will have to order them online. Now, the sizes are listed as 13", 14", and 15". What does this measurement ...

Thanks,
I have sent a PM to Jeff. At least, I hope I did. I used "Jeff Hansen" as his Username. Hope that's right.

Sigmund Ringeck's books

There are two books in print about Sigmund Ringeck's commentaries on Liechtenauer: Secrets of German Medieval Swordsmanship edited by Tobler, and Sigmund Ringeck's Knightly Art of the Longsword byLindholm. I know Lindholm is a practicing member of ARMA, so would his book be better for a beginner (su...

Re: New padded weapon design

Mathew,

Thanks. Did you know that there are 3 grades of EVA foam? I didn't until I was about to order some. I'm trying to get samples now of the three grades to evaluate them.

Also, any help on how to attach the cross piece to the handle?

Re: New padded weapon design

Hi Shane, Thanks for the help. I guess I didn't use the correct terminology when asking my questions. I was really asking about the crossguard. How is it attached to the handle? Do you just take 2 strips of foam and bend them around perpendicular to the handle, using adhesive and tape to hold it in ...

New padded weapon design

I have been gathering the materials for making the new padded weapon design described on the Arma member's page. This is the design that is based on oak slats and aluminum bars. I have a question about the foam. I have found a supplier of closed cell foam, but it comes in essentally 2 varieties. One...

Re: Sword Sharpening

you might also consider that you can get a lot more training out of the sword if it is left unsharpen, including some free-play with a training partner. Good point Randall. I suppose my enthusiasm got the best of me. Upon sober reflection, it seems that it would be better to train with the sword un...

Re: Sword Sharpening

Ryan, I just got a message back from MRL that the edge angle for my Pappenheimer is 36 to 38 degrees. Any ideas on how to measure and maintain that angle on the blade? Should I even worry about it at all, or just go for the flattest angle that the blade configuration allows as per your instructions?
