Geesze, guys good discussion, the only point I wanted to add as well, is that in general we don't see guys grabbing knives from the clinch, when we are assaulted in Law Enfocement with knives. The suspect usually does not have a plan and the attack is more emotional than pre-cognitive. Due to that ...

When you have to deal with someone who has a dagger about which you are worried, then fall on his nearest hand with the same hand, that is with your right on his right, his left with your left; with whichever hand you grip him, jerk his hand toward it. If he then draws his dagger with the other han...

Stewart I do not totaly disagree with your theory, One thing though that i think will make a big diffrence and change thing's is the addition of striking, if you are not in a dominant position and striking is allowed then it will change your priorities, if you are getting hit in the face your natura...

David I would be in on the sambo jacket's, I went to the website you did myself and thought the same thing wish JC would ring in on this to see what he say's. I am also wondering f a doublet or gambeson might not be a bout the same price though. Stewart I understand what your saying about about the ...

I have run into the same problem, so I bought a cas iberia gambeson. it is a fake gambeson, it's not thick and does not provide any protection in weapon sparring. It is however not very warm, and very resistant to tear and wear, more or less a european Gi. I cut open the armpits as they restrict mo...

A sweatshirt would still be too stretchy and prone to tearing, especially at the seams. The material from which Sambo jackets are made, on the other hand, does not stretch, and all of the seams are reinforced. As for gambesons, personally, I am not interested in dressing up in historical garb. Cost...

Re: The true meaning of true time.

I just went through a flaming thread, but it seems to me that Silver actually agreed fully with a person who called his ideas wrong. There are eight times, whereof four are true, and four are false. The true times are these: the time of the hand, The time of the hand and body, The time of the hand,...

George Silver 14 The true fights be these. Whatsoever is done with the hand before the foot or feet is true fight. The false fight are these: whatsoever is done with the foot or feet before the hand, is false, because the hand is swifter than the foot, the foot or feet being the slower mover than t...

Re: Double underhooks

I started noticing that all the manuals that I have looked at have defenses for the double underhooks but they do not advocate the use of the double unerhooks. Has anyone seen a manual that advocates the use of the double underhooks? Double underhook's and over under is a staple grip in wrestling f...

Re: Question about Auerswald. Hook or half hip or both?

I have a question about the half hip and the hook in Auerswald. He mentions the half hip with a winding of the right leg on his left leg. This looks similar to the Hook mentioned later on. The half hip is also mentioned with out the leg winding around the opponent left leg in two other places. http...

There was no "humor" in my post at all, nor was it tongue in cheek. If I was ever assaulted and put in a headlock, to the best of my ability this is exactly what is happening to my assailant. This is just good self defense. It was short because a lot of the "good stuff" really i...

Re: Durchlauffen & Heben

Durchlauffen & Heben (pass through / run through & heave) Play #34 of Ringer Kunst by Fabian von Auerswald (1539). Von Auerswald shows it used offensively versus foe -- but you could just as well use it defensively versus foe trying to get you with guillotine choke. If you do it righ...

Re: Escape from Guillotine choke

Question, what are some good escape options as found in the manuals against the Guillotine choke? There is an assisted lift slam in Catch wrestling that to me seem's reminisent of some thing's in the manual's, it is simply arm arond the waist the other goes between the guy's leg's and you lift him ...

Brandon I have not seen any of the manual's actualy define indes, what everyone has said is pretty close to what I think, Joachim Meyer said that indes came from the latin phrase intus and that indes was a good German word he failed to realy explain it further, I did look up the term intus in latin ...
