Anyone in the Inland Empire of California?

Hey all, I've started practicing back in 2001 I think, with the Provo group. I started a small group in Berkeley when I was up in the Bay Area and now that I'm down in southern California I'm wondering if there's any ARMA enthusiasts out here? Sound off!

Re: Breathing

Has anyone tried running around a little bit and then grabbing your waster and going through the 8 cuts or flourishing awhile? I thought of this while training with my group in front of a library with a large field. I ran two laps and got my breathing really going and then tried to maintain good tec...

Re: Waster Care

Where can one find linseed oil? And does it come boiled or do you do that yourself?

Thanks!

Wait... Did Jake get into the military? LOL, I thought he had given that up.

Jake, I bet you'll be awesome on bayonet training. <img src="/forum/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

Re: New Stirling Arms wasters receive ARMA approval

OMG! I met Jim at the Pittsburg Scottish Fair and I got to play with his wasters. The legends are TRUE! Excellent weight and balance on these suckers. He even had a Zweihander on display that I handled and flourished a bit and it was incredible! Most replicas would have been clumsy and heavy but the...

Re: Roman swordsmanship

From what I've read and researched - the gladius was primarily a stabbing weapon. The Roman soldiers would march on the enemy in a line with their huge shields and their little swords. If they were able to stay in formation, and it seems like most of the time they were, they could defend themselves ...

Re: Fighting multiple opponents

Watch Braveheart. I think you pretty much had to just go at the closest enemy and hope your buds are watching your back. Lots of moving around helps. We did this a few times at the Provo Study Group- 2 on 1, 3 on 1, and the 1 had to run his booty off to keep from getting surrounded and taken out rig...

Re: New Stirling Arms wasters receive ARMA approval

Well, looks like I'm gonna have to pony up some cash... Hmm, I think I'll sell some old computer games, LOL. Swordfighting's a sweet multiplayer game and the graphics are awesome!

Re: Help wanted with falchions

Hmm, I don't know if anyone out there has studied this weapon much yet but I am also most interested to hear about the strengths and weaknesses of this particular type of sword! Ralph- are you asking about what a falchion IS, or more along the lines of style of fighting and techniques USING a falshi...

Re: Padded Wasters

Hey Jake! Glad to see you're still doing ARMA out in Tennessee.

So Jeanry, how does the construction of your wasters differ from the ARMA or Knoxville wasters?

Re: Padded swords to be tested

Nevermind, I just used another email account.

I'm thinking that the Welch padded sword is superior simply because it has a serious quillon/guard. On the 2.2 sword, isn't the guard pretty floppy?
