Please help with Fiore

Looking for Flos Duellatorum text I've found it in two representatios: Getty Representation and Pisani-Dossi Representation. But they are quite different. Even the text sizes are not the same. For example if Pisani-Dossi Representation gives just two rows for a figure (as in faximile copy that I hav...

Re: The tall mans advantage?

In fact, many historical masters--Ringeck under Liechtenauer, for example--state that all fencing (fechten) comes from wrestling (ringen). Swordfighting is just wrestling with a long, sharp object, according to many historical masters. The longer I study the art, the more I agree. And boxing is jus...

Re: The tall mans advantage?

We're still talking about historical fencing? There is a principal difference between fencing and wrestling. In wrestling it's really difficult to keep a lower opponent on the "perfect range", but it is much easier to do it in fencing. A wrestler can fulfil his tactical plans even geting b...

Re: The tall mans advantage?

I'm partly agree with John. The opponent's height is not a thing which must definitely cause his victory. But there is one thing I suppose John to be mistaken. He speaks from the position of highly skilled master. When two highly skilled fencers spar it is usualy doesn't metter what is their height....

Re: The tall mans advantage?

Hi, Shane I'm quite tall man but since I bacame one of trainers in my club the tactical questions are the thing I usually concentrate on. I was working on the taller opponent problem a lot of time analysing the things that some shorter opponents successfully did against me and checking them sparing ...

Re: What about mutual hits?

How do you do full-contact sparring without severe injury? Especially with steel blunts? First of all we allways use good armor for steel tournaying. Nobody will let you come into the fence unless yuor body is completely protected with steel armor or chainmail with metall thickness about 1.5 - 2 mi...

Re: What about mutual hits?

As I see most are agree with me in principals: mutual hits is a bad practice. But to count the lost for both fencers is good idea if the sparing goes until one resultative hit. Here in Kiev we spar until 3, 5, 7 and 10 hits to avoid accidental win. Fighting until more htan 1 hit is good to reveal be...

What about mutual hits?

Sometimes while sparing opponents hit each other at the same time or in short time one after other. There are two general ideas about this cases: a) To count that both are hit b) Anulate the result and not to count these hits at all I tend to hold the second opinion. A fencer must use not to let his...

Re: Knight vs. Samurai -a few thoughts

I have not seen these documents about duelling but used to fence against Kiev kendo students. Most of our clubmen win. So I thought much about such questions. Of course it is not politicaly correct to speak about superiority of one tecnic above other: any thing depends on fighters personaly. But we ...

Re: My parrying skills need help.

2 Karen Agree about the exercise discussed before. It is helpfull. But I'd mention that attacker must try to harm defencer a bit. The best learning result you will get when you're tired (you can either make this exercise for long time or run a kind of cross before) and when you know that getting the...

Re: counters with the meisterhau?

IMHO, there is one most simple thing to manage situation where your opponent confuses you with his tactical advantage such as driving your sword down or aside. It is the distance. (A)lice can either break the distance by some quick steps back or shorten it steping forward and depriving (B)ob of oppo...
