I've always been amazed at the disconnect between armor buffs and sword buffs, As a mostly armour guy I can tell you that its no big mystery. In the 1300s it was vary common for knights to have three chains running from their coat-of-plates, one attached to their dagger, one to their great helm, and...

Medieval sword quality?

Hello all, I've been gone for a while but now I'm back. I have a professor who teaches material science, and in all the classes I have taken with him he has professed the greatness of the Japanese sword. He has said that it was "by far the best". I'm sure they were nice. Can anyone ...

newbi question: test cutting material.

This is my last thread tonight I promise. All I cut with my sword are sticks and on occasion a cardboard box. Boxes are light and aquard to cut, and if im cutting sticks there either twigs or give me the feeling im takeing years of my swords life. What do you guys cut? What do you set your materials...

Euro vs. Japan

So im in a metalurgy class at my comunity colledge, and the prof. is a really neat old guy. I talked to him about my medievalist tendencies and the next class he had a bunch of articles for me to read. He even asked if I could sneak my sword into the colledge. Which I did. But he keeps mentioning ho...

scratch in blade

So I've got a really nice albion agincourt sword and a bit ago I dicided to sharpen it. My goal was to use the wetstone I have to sharpen the tip of the blade and slightly dullen it near the shoulder, and somewhat all along the strong of the blade. I'm not sure what the deal is, perhaps my wetstone ...

Re: WMA vs. Western Weight Training.

Good posts guys I think I tend to agree with Aaron and Tailleboise though. I die if a 13 year old nerd hits me with a sword just like I die when a 30 year old body builder hits me with a sword. My opinion is now, as long as you've got a capable/able body, its the skill and endurance that matter most...

WMA vs. Western Weight Training.

A sparring friend and I have finnally started using our gym memberships. He wants to bulk up, I however am wondering what the best method for improving my swordsmanship. So what do you guys think, is it more important to swordsmanship to build bulk muscle or tone muscles? Historically there seems to...
