Re: ballistics gelatin

Has anyone test cut on anything with heavier bones then deer? like an elk? I've heard the bones in some wild boar are extreamly tough.

Re: ARMA Code of Conduct?

Re: ballistics gelatin

Martian, whacking dead animals with the sword is an old established technique of test cutting. Animal bones should not be too hard to come by, easier at anyrate then the balistic gel. The high speed camera would help us examine what we already know, (That bones do not stand up to solid cuts) but in ...

Re: ballistics gelatin

I do not know if balistic gel would be good with swords. I do know why they use it with bullets. The idea is that it streaches and flexes like flesh, and has the same cosistancy. If you shoot someone with a bullet, especially a hollowpoint, what happens is that you get two differnt wound cavities. O...

Re: ARMA Code of Conduct?

THANK YOU! I was convinced that it would be labeled "Code of conduct" from the way I was told to look for it. I confess I was rather expecting something with sub-paragraphs and whatnot.

ARMA Code of Conduct?

I was recommended to read the ARMA code of conduct, (I got into something of an argument with another scholar I felt was insulting me and was told to read the code of conduct...) Now, I’m trying to be good, and learn all I can, so I’m willing to go read it and try to abide by it, (even when insulted...

Re: Why the longsword?

Thank you everyone, those are excellent answers. I wasn't aware that the majority of surviving material was on the longsword. Pity there isn't as much about the shield. Who knows what wonderous tricks we might be completely overlooking? Tell me, IS there much crossover between the falchion and the s...

Re: The dangers of groundfighting in WMA

Casper said: "I seriously doubt any art prior to the modern age seriously focused on ground fighting as its central aspect outside of the sporting arena, however rough." I don't know about WMA and the ground, but I do understand there was atleast one Chinese art that focused on ground figh...

Re: Best Weapon to Start With?

Just MAKE a waster for whatever you like.

Personally I prefer the shortsword, but there is more material avalible on how to use the longsword. Here is a nice little peice on making a waster, and it doesn't have to be that nice.

Re: Scabbard Leather treatment?

LEt's see... Beeswax tallow and neatsfoot oil... OR linseed oil and turpintine... Wouldn't the turpintine make the leather smell bad afterwards? Well, for either treatment, do you paint it on, or soak it on? And should I stain the leather before or after? (Some of the leather I want to treat I alrea...

Scabbard Leather treatment?

I was reading about how leather that is left against metal will deterorate it over the long term by absorbing moisture and keeping that moisture against the metal, and that the leather of a scabbard must be 'treated.' Would anyone be so kind as to help me out with information on what to treat the le...

Re: ARMA Fitness Program

You said: "cirque-du-solei style gymnastics...something like the european version of Yoga and Matt Furey combined. That sort of excercise is pretty common in historical plates (or so it seems), and we know that it existed." Facinating! I've never heard of such a thing. Can you tell me more...

Couldn't the top spike on a poleaxe easily break the grill apart with a solid thrust? Espeically the quatrangular type topspike?
