Re: HAHAHA!!

Look at this...Not the sword (well, if you want to) but scroll down to see the video clips on the left..hahahah Hmm, I think I understand what John Clements was getting at in Medieval Swordsmanship (on stage-combat) now. "Blood-groove" indeed. <img src="/forum/images/icons/tongue.gif...

Re: Through kendo eyes

Looking over the thread, I noticed that one comment which seemed to come up a few times was that WMA "suffers from a broken link" between the original practitioners and the modern students. How much truth is there in that? Considering the fact that many examples of EMA seem to have become ...

Re: Important new article on the Crusades

well the real tragedy of the crusades was how the Eurpeans gave birth to the concept of the extreme religious holy warriors. The holy warriors of later centuries from Islam were merely imitations of the crazies we exported over there, a direct response to what we did. So the Crusaders managed to in...

Re: Important new article on the Crusades

I can't agree with this article. It is, perhaps, a good counter to the more common view of the Crusades, but distorts the facts just as much or more. I, on the other hand, can do little but agree with it. The violent expansion o...

Re: Mongol and European comparitive tactics?

If you think they're contradictory then you misunderstand my point...or I've made a mistake. But let's not talk about that right Fair enough I'd say Chinese fortifications were pretty comparable to their European counterparts. They consisted of tall, thick stone walls topped by battlements and supp...

Re: Mongol and European comparitive tactics?

I could be wrong, but I don't think Chinese fortifications of the time were really comparable to European castles. Well to compare individual merits is a rather endless and inconclusive discussion. I wouldn't say so. I find it interesting to make these comparisons, at the least. Mongolia is the hors...

Re: Mongol and European comparitive tactics?

well.. i didn't wanted to say that europeans were superior to mongols. i ment to say that mongols were a bit weaken when they came deeper in europe. I wouldn't have objected if you did. i think that mongols "didn't succeed&q...

Re: And NOT just in the mainstream either....

James: I'm not sure if you follow what I was saying. To clarify... my earlier post was indicating that the number of sword/sword-type attacks actually occurring today is likely UNDERINFLATED in the reporting record, because such documentable sources, as I explained, are likely not being added to th...

Re: And NOT just in the mainstream either....

Ugh. I have to express disgust at these ugly (and in some cases downright stupid) examples, but then again, swords are weapons, and I don't think it should come as a surprise to anyone that they might occasionally be used as such, though no one in the mainstream media will likely manage to reach tha...

Re: Female Armor- Dang hard to find!

Most of the so called armor made available for women resembles tacky lingerie, and no real warrior woman would be caught dead in the stuff. IMHO. This won't be anything in the way of helping, but would I be correct in assuming that this might express your feelings more or less accurately? http://cl...

Re: Mongol and European comparitive tactics?

I read somewhere that yhe mongols actually reported having a very tough time with Heavy Crossbows in their two major battles against Europeans.
Yes, I believe you mentioned their own records state as much.

Re: RMA

Of course they do. Sambo is an "indigenous" martial art, or to be more precise, a martial art of Russian origin that was created during Soviet times. Russians have a long history of wrestling excellence. Thanks for the response Gene. I've looked up some information on RMA over the web, an...

Shoot the horse out from under them with your own bow. Then kill the guy on foot.
Gotcha. Crossbows it is.
