Re: Been a while. . .

Thanks for your replies. Ray, I'll see what my schedule looks like when I'm in New York. At least I know there is a group within a decent distance. I'm hoping maybe to start a club on campus if I can find other interested individuals. Derek, I'll be gone from July 22-31. In August I should be around...

Been a while. . .

Hello again everyone! It's been a long time since I've been seriously studying and attempting to practice European martial arts. It's great to see how much things have grown in the last couple years or more since I've been active on here. Anyway, I would like to finally get serious about becoming a ...

A few questions

OK, I've got a whole bunch of questions and I figure I might as well get most of them out of the way in one post. Anyway, I'm a Youth member, turning 18 next month and ready to get serious about ARMA as an "adult" member. I've dabbled up to this point, but I want to go further now. My main...

Re: Swordsmith Apprentice (and intro)

Hey Ken! I myself had an oppurtunity(actually still do) to do some bladesmithing and it was interesting. The metal shop down here was pretty lacking, but it was fun to make a go at it. I definitely "cheated" and used modern equipment and pretty much just did stock removal. I used appropria...

Re: NEW Wallerstein/Vadi article online

I can't say I've ever seen a piece of historical art work detailing a battle where there are bare chested guys running around (I know you're not saying exactly this). Everybody has at least some form of tunic on. Unless of course your fighting against some Germanic or Celtic barbarian who does figh...

Re: Use of the Flail

I've never really worked with a flail before so I can't help much, but so far Brian's advice sounds good. The only thing is, the "real thing" isn't necessarily huge or heavy. Some had chains only eight inches long and weigh 4 or 5 pounds. So I think your suggestions sound reasonable, even ...

New Essay on Parrying

The third part of JC's parrying essay is now up.

The way John explains everything it is hard to see how anyone could still think that edge parries are supposed to be used. And as he points out, it's so logical. Great job, John!

Silver Question

I have been reading up on Silver but was slightly puzzled by section 18(Paradoxes of Defence): There are eight times, whereof four are true and four are false. The true times are these: the time of the hand, the time of the hand and body, the time of the hand, body, and foot the time of the hand, bo...
