Allow me some spam, I've started translating a Portuguese 19th century walking staff manual, that to not be so much off topic, is in the Iberian tradition, and has situations very similar to the older montante authors, you can have a look at a translated section I'm sharing here: https://docs.googl...

OK, thanks! It's good to know that I'm not missing that much. So Godinho is fairly extensive? Hm. The abridged version I found must be very abridged indeed. Our plan is to have Two-Hander as an optional weapon for those with longsword experience. I haven't done much of Godinho, so I don't remember ...

We're currently working on designing our curriculum for Two-Hand Sword. I've found some good material online in Figueyredo, Godinho, Di Grassi, and Marozzo. But I'm having trouble finding Parades and Manciolino in English. Would you know where to find them in English? Or maybe other good sources in...

I hardly ever post here, but then, I hardly ever post anywhere. However, since Spadone & Montante is something that I study, I thought I've give my two cents. My answer to the question would be a resounding 'yes'. Clear as mud, right? Okay, what I mean is that *sometimes* it is just a longer lon...

I strongly suggest getting out of the "best sword for whatever" mode of thinking. The best sword is the one you have in your hand. If you know I.33 then the length of the blade on an arming sword does not matter. It really is a non-factor. I much rather do sword & buckler with a hand-...

Re: Random question on sword & rotella.

So Sword & Rotella is one of the many fighting techniques I have been extremely interested in but a question popped in my head. We all are pretty aware that the Rotella or Target was used with a Rapier, but was it also used with a Bastard Sword, or even a Side Sword? It was definitely used with...

Interesting. So a Type XIX like the Albion Doge is considered a sidesword? I was under the impression that a sidesword would have a more pronounced taper, something like a long Type XV. Am I wrong? Since "sidesword" is a modern term, I guess it's really whatever we define it to be. Howeve...

Re: Quality Side Swords and other weapons?

Albion does make a great sharp C&T sword: http://www.albion-swords.com/swords/albion/nextgen/sword-medieval-doge-venetian-xix.htm That's a really nice sword (I got to handle one a few years ago), but I would hesitate to practice any hard blade-on-blade actions with it with the stock blade and I...

The pictures look nice, but some of A&A's training blades appear to be much more floppy than we like in ARMA. I'd be happy to judge each model on its own merits, but if the A&A Side Sword Trainer is any guide on price, nobody I know wants to spring $600 on it without being able to handle on...

Re: Greatsword gear/training questions

Thanks for the reply. I thought a greatsword could probably be able to be handled like a longsword, I just wasn't sure if that'd be accurate so I wanted to ask first. However I was thinking more of a zweihander when I wrote the original post though, so do you think I should study the polearm more w...

The after-blow I'm talking about is not German fencing nachschlag. It really is a seemingly arbitrary rule such as this: Manciolino (trans. Tom Leoni) wrote: After receiving a hit, you may not perform more than one riposte delivered with a single pass forward; Just by reading this statement I would...

Thanks again! I've perused your document and it should allow me to study sword and target much easier. I'm guessing it might still be wise for me to study sword and buckler in depth before trying sword and target. Is that correct? Also, would it be possible to get an explanation of the stances? I'm...

BTW, I forgot before, but Steve Reich put out a very handy PDF containing all of the Bolognese sword and rotella material, translated, with a glossary. It's available here: http://www.nova-assalto.com/files/BologneseSwordAndRotellaActions.pdf There are some other useful articles at that site too. H...

I noticed that they have replaceable blades on the site. As such I'm assuming that the blades are screwed in somehow. Is that correct? If so, Have you had any problems with it loosening up on you? The Pommel screws onto the tang, but then there is a locking nut (the nipple on the end of the pommel)...

Here are a few images I have online--although none of them give any idea of the flex. First, one sidesword trainer with the nail head (#6005) and another with the sidesword blade (#6008) below it: http://www.nova-assalto.com/forum_images/BothSwords.jpg http://www.nova-assalto.com/forum_images/BothSw...
