ARMA San Marcos, SD county, CA

Thus far we're Unofficial, but we hope to get more people. We're trying to find out what day would be most convenient for interested people. Looking at Wednesdays, possibly? More updates to this thread as we work things out.

Has anybody tried the helmets they make for kendo, but with added mesh, for the more enthusiastic freeplay?

I tend to use a little music in the background for my recent practices to add a little chaos to things, and for the morale boost. Lately the favorite has been stuff by Runrig, a scottish rock band. In my reenactment activities I can vouch for the fact that marching and war songs do greatly improve t...

I was always a sword and history geek. In High School I started and ran a club dedicated to researching whatever we could about medieval swordsmanship, and teaching each other whatever we could learn by freeplay and experimentation with homemade wasters. Then I went to college and finally joined up ...

Re: ARMA in San Diego, CA?

I know there are at least a few people lurking around on the forum who are ARMA members or trying to become so and who want to gather in the San Diego area. There's a group in Orange County but for some of us that's still pretty far away to drive very often. Anybody in San Diego county? Show of han...

Have you tried asking the fellows over at http://www.myarmoury.com/home.html ? I know a lot of ARMA guys, SCA types, and reenactors from many groups frequent that site and the site's focus is on armor and equipment. Likewise to the ArmourArchive: http://www.armourarchive.org/ , what looks like a ver...

I've tried a couple made that way. They were still whippy along the edge. :(

Darn. Oh well.

One of the several reasons I quit doing EMA at all was that most schools I can get to around here require the performance of kata. I have a learning disability that makes learning things like long line dances or special routine kata patterns Very Difficult. However, flouryshing is a lot like what I ...

Hey I live in San Diego area! PM me please, I have been off theboards for a long time and letting my solo practice go due to personal life craziness, but now I'm back into my historical reenactment hobbies. Also, my old buddy Lance from ARMA Provo is moving down to this area this week, and I'll have...

I think that there is too much hubub over this, but a lot of it is because of the "meaning" of "master" in martial arts circles when compared to other fields. My wife is a "master" of Psychology, my father of engineering, and my mother of physical therapy. No big deal,...

Understanding G. Silver

In his Paradoxes of Defence, Silver says, "To know the perfect length of your sword, you shall stand with your sword and dagger drawn, as you see this picture, keeping out straight your dagger arm, drawing back your sword as far as conveniently you can, not opening the elbow joint of your sword...
