Kyle- I sent you an e-mail a couple weeks ago, but maybe I had your e-mail address wrong. Very possible since my desire to type fast greatly exceeds my ability to do so. Rand- So far it seems pretty nice down here. I've definitely missed training with you guys. I hope I'm able to go to the internati...

Re: Good first sword?

Unfortunately I have not, we don't get in new styles nearly as often as I would like. People are so intent on buying the mainstays ( i.e.~ longsword, hand+half, viking... katana <img src="/forum/images/icons/mad.gif" alt="" /> ,etc.), that it actually cuts into the market for any...

Re: Good first sword?

I work in a local Knife (sword) Shoppe in the DFW area (before anyone asks, we ALWAYS tell people when they're buying SLOs and that they're only good for decoration) and I can run down the usual prices you'll see for Paul Chen Practicals ~Longsword (which they call a bastard)= around $200-235 (this ...

Re: When is the History Channel Wrong?

Thanks John, I had a sneaking suspicion, but I would never claim to be enough of an historian myself to be able to expertly speak on the matter. Plus, like I said before, I didn't want to judge something that I didn't have a TON of experience with (don't watch much TV).

Re: When is the History Channel Wrong?

So they seem to have lots of hits and misses. I've never had cable/satellite(nor do I watch much TV anyway), so I've only caught the History Channel 2 or 3 times. Each time it was based on some portion of medieval history and had some glaring inaccuracies (not counting the castle episode, because I ...

When is the History Channel Wrong?

I know that people have discussed some of The History Channels errors before, but have there been any articles on the matter? I know someone that uses the History Channel as his holy gospel, and oft-times, information he gets from there just seems glaringly inaccurate. Does the History Channel often...

Re: a new spin on an old subject

I think maybe things are getting a bit overcomplicated here. Obviously, this is more of a "just for fun" thread, so we have to take that for what it is. So, for a bit of clarification (at least in my POV). The original question posed had more to do with questions of technique than technolo...

Re: a new spin on an old subject

Just making a quick post here... Native American vs. Frank- All that was mentioned really had to do with different technology as opposed to fighting styles. So we need to consider their styles themselves as opposed to the weapons. Also, in staying with the vein of this forum, the two fighters would ...

Re: leather armor?

This thread is getting pretty interesting. Still looking for suggestions on the best combination of light, fast armor while still presenting an even amount of protection. So keep this discussion going, but throw in some suggestions along the way...lol.

Re: leather armor?

yeah, I've seen and read about more padded/quilted than I have leather (by far), but I must admit... I just like leather armor. Plus, I haven't seen any gambesons I really like. I'll be the first to admit that what should simply be functional armor I've added a desire for "coolness" to. <s...

leather armor?

I've always had a keen interest in lightweight leather armor, but I can't find a good place to get it. Everywhere I've seen seems to make fantasy leather armor. Can anyone tell me where to look into attractive "semi-realistic" leather armor?

Re: A sword for the day

Based on logistics, I think the staff might be my weapon of choice... inconspicous, cheap, long reach (the list goes on). Although, assuming I was walking through a crowded city with little room to move a big weapon around... I think it might be best to have the messer or maybe falchion (maybe pushi...
